Attended the APPG on Media & Public Interest News Foundation drop-in event exploring the state of local news provision across the UK.
With 4.4 million people living in news deserts, it was eye-opening to see the data on where local journalism is thriving, and where it's vanishing.

Pleased to continue as Chair of the APPG on Black Health at the AGM. During the session, we heard from leading professionals about the need to improve diversity in clinical trials.
We will continue to campaign to tackle the health inequalities affecting the Black community.

The new statistics are alarming. The average diagnosis time has now risen to 9 years & 4 months, up from 8 years in 2020.
There is an urgent need to reduce diagnosis times to under 1 year by 2030.
Met with the Europe Minister at the APPG for Cyprus for an briefing on the recent drone attack on RAF Akrotiri.
We discussed UK-Cyprus coordination to ensure the safety of the island, active British personnel, their families, and British nationals during this evolving situation.
Pleased to attend the APPG on Cancer Parliamentary Reception to discuss the National Cancer Plan.
Great meeting cancer organisations, care professionals, and those affected by cancer. Conversations focused on how the Plan will improve patient experience and tackle inequalities.

Yesterday at the the APPG on Less Survivable Cancers session, we focused on improving timely access to treatment.
We heard from professionals and examined how commitments in the National Cancer Plan can be delivered.
Faster diagnosis and treatment for less survivable cancers must be a priority.
Joined Kids & Enemy Of Boredom Academy at a drop-in to hear directly from children and young people with SEND about their lived experiences, and their ideas and solutions for real reform.
Their clarity on what must change should drive the reform we push for in Parliament.

I was proud to share insights from my role as Vice Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee and discuss what makes our democracy so great.
We were pleased to welcome the Under-Secretary of State for Public Health and Prevention to our APPG on Less Survivable Cancers to discuss the cancer plan.
Cancer charities and campaign groups had the opportunity to raise questions as we continue to push for implementation of the plan.

This must change - right across the health service.

Incredibly inspired by my visit to ‘Girls for a Change’ at the 610 Birmingham settlement in Kingstanding. The commitment from the staff to empower young girls is outstanding.
It's exactly this kind of grassroots energy that brings the Kingstanding Pride and Place vision to life.
Spent some valuable time with the wonderful Revd Emma Sykes, vicar of St Barnabas Church in Erdington, hearing about the inspiring community projects taking shape.
With her move in April, it’s clear her heart has always been, and will always be, with the people she serves. 🙏🏿
