International Democracy Union - Wikipedia

May be trying to impress the International Democracy Union - an international alliance of centre-right to right-wing political parties?

Oof. Saying this, I am guilty of being unkind and shallow but ...

Convincing Berlin with a silver-tongued and flowing, natural, and easy command of language.

In 25-Country Survey, Americans Especially Likely To View Fellow Citizens as Morally Bad Across 25 countries, Americans are the most likely to see the morality and ethics of people in their country as somewhat or very bad.

The title of the report is deceiving. Look at the whole article for a global snap shot of a broad range of what specifically is believed to be moral vs immoral.

Satellite images show Iran school strike hit more buildings than earlier reported The images suggest that precision munitions struck other buildings, including a clinic that was also inside the complex.

Opinions abound as to political responsibility and intention but no matter what, the end result is the same.
More dead children.

On Swarms, Davos and the Power of the Powerless Let’s take a look today at the power of individuals against world leaders and what swarm improvisation principles suggest is best to do. This is a rather unusual post for this blog, but hey, …

The Genetic Choir is not a group you would expect to weigh in on quitting use of services of big invasive U.S. tech companies, but they are.πŸ‘
This Dutch nonprofit ensemble of contemporary vocal improvisers creates projects & can be approached for collaborations & giving concerts.
Have a look.

Our Story The history of the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), formed in 1982 to provide grants to social service organizations.

Worse - Ontario Lottery & Gaming proceeds go to the Min. of Tourism, Culture & Gaming. $$$ from there go to the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Charities providing vital services MAY get to compete for that money from gambling to run their services. Often, it is 'make or break' funding.

I thought I found a small doable role in my rural Ontario town where winter is formidable. Many here are chronically unhoused. Shelter is needed 24 hours/day to keep them alive.
Made progress providing more time indoors but the larger community isn't putting skin in the game with me.
Pep talk needed

What We Know About Drone Use in the Iran War Two experts discuss how drone technology is shaping yet another conflict and what the United States can learn from Ukraine.

It seems like only 10 years ago that the first drone appeared in my rural area. Now look!
It is almost laughable that a huge stock of $20K drones in Iran could outlast multimillion dollars worth of U.S. stocks of interceptors or cruise missiles to end war.
Watch for ads for U. S. drone builders...

Dwight D. Eisenhower: The Chance for Peace

Some history to heed for the sake of #Peace.
Take in the words of Dwight D. Eisenhower in his speech, 'The Chance for Peace' April 16, 1953 Washington, D.C. just after he became president & Stalin had recently died. Context is largely the threat of nuclear war but it applies to all war.

Rutger Bregman's viral tax speech did not go down well in Davos | 7.30 YouTube video by ABC News In-depth

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" (G. Santayana)
A cartoon morphed it to say:
"Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it.
Yet those who do study history are doomed to stand by helplessly while everyone else repeats it."
But historians CAN call it instead.

Oh well. Reportedly the first time consequences of geopolitical conflict caught up to a U.S. big data corporation. Not good if it affects connectivity for ordinary people in the Middle East and does not mitigate the tragedy of the school being hit where children died.

March 2, 2026 The Economist’s Middle East correspondent Gregg Carlstrom noted that Trump appears to be workshopping the causes for his attacks on Iran and his goals for the war by talking to journalists.

My initial take on this Heather Cox Richardson opinion...
1) The problems for Iranians are complex & have a long tangled history.
2) The current self-serving 'solutions' from the U.S. president are "as shallow as pee on a plate".
3) I am no further ahead on how to support Iranians here or in Iran.

Biosecurity experts are raising concerns re: the convergence of AI with the life sciences. Risks include large language models (LLMs) like OpenAI’s various GPTs, Anthropic’s Claude, or Gemini enabling a broader range of people to pursue potential bioweapons.
