All of my work has this fatal flaw. I just don't know how to greeble! Do I need to try copying from reference material more? Are there some fundamentals I don't know? Do I need to learn how to draw textures? How do I do that?

Here's what I'm really struggling with: How do I full these flat empty spaces?
Functionally nothing needs to be there, but without any detailing it looks bland and low effort. How do mecha artists learn to fill these otherwise empty spaces? I know practice is party of it but I feel like Sisyphus.

Working on the Augur's cockpit. Art block won't let me finish the details.

I'm still torn over having a virtual canopy like in Macross or just running all visual information run straight to the pilots visor. I guess I could compromise by only projecting the HUD to the visor ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿค”

I'll fully model the exterior and modify the existing hanger to fit inside the ship, maybe also the repair bay. I'll leave everything else inside the ship to unseen.

This is a good start! Its based on a hybrid container-roro design. A deck cleared of containers leaves plenty of uniform space for two runways and an aircraft elevator, and a parking lot interior can be converted to hanger, repair bay, and all the other necessary facilities.

Even in the setting I'm creating a PMC purchasing an aircraft carrier, even an old one, seems out of the question. So I'm looking at diagrams of cargo ships and speculating about how each different type could be renovated into an all-in-one mobile airbase.

I think I've identified why this hanger has been do difficult: I didn't know where it was located. This might seem unimportant, but actually informs a lot of a place's character. So where is the Dove Initiative's headquarters? The only logical place is on a gigantic ship! Gotta design a boat now

What people miss about this peanut thing is that vtubers are more than medium, its a subculture. Thats why it sucks that a person who intentionally distances himself from and hates the subculture (Schrodinger's asshole) won the award. Should have gone to someone helped build the subculture.

I dunno if the room is too big over all, but the previous hanger was too small so extra space can't hurt. The ceiling has to be high enough for a sundog to stand up.

I'm finally happy with the Spellbinder hanger! This will probably be the only indoor environment I make for the rulebook. I'll finish the briefing room and Major's office later. So nice to finally have something I can post. I'll make some NPCs eventually, maybe a combat scene next. #mecha #b3d #art

I've spent dozens of hours working on this hanger, but I can't get it feel right. There's so much empty and flat wall space and I have no idea what I can do with it. Reducing the size of the room is an option, but doesn't solve anything fundamentally.
Its depressing.

Started blocking out the hanger's briefing / common room. I'm not interested in creating spaces at such a small scale, but the rulebook outline calls for renders of pilots so I guess I gotta.
