Social media post with the cover for A Million Points of Light, with the following quote below

‘I want this,’ he heard himself saying, even though he did not want this. He wanted to curl into himself, hold his broken pieces together. He wanted the world to open and swallow him, keep him safe. He didn’t want Ilea’s teeth in him, their tongue lapping at broken skin, at new-spilled blood.

He wanted Ilea’s teeth in him.

‘Oh, fuck me,’ Aleks said and the world went warm and black as he obliterated the bed, the room, Ilea.

It's #BookQW and the word is open! A Million Points of Light is the sequel to last year's The Shape of Monsters, and it's full of disaster queers who really should not have access to magic and unbridled power, no sir.

A quote from TLC Director Aki Schilz in an interview with Caro Clarke from Portobello Literary. "I love the idea of there being many possibilities to make a writing life work. It feels much more open and possible. In more practical terms, the ability to give and receive feedback is a real skill. It takes time and, in my view, training. To imagine it’s all instinct is to deny those without access or privilege the opportunity to move forwards, and that feels suspiciously like exclusion to me. I think we should have more opportunities for editing training available to everyone."

Also another great piece about toxic ableist tropes in books and the Salt Path fiasco here from @bookwormvaught.bsky.social

Just realised it was in 2018 I was being told by people in PRH that my book about nature and illness was unsaleable if it didn't have a redemptive cure arc. 🫠

Moving Mountains is not about overcoming or conquering, but about living with and connecting, shifting the reader’s attention to the things easily overlooked by those who move through the world untroubled by the body that carries them.

Through 25 pieces, the writers offer a vision of nature that encompasses the close up, the microscopic and the vast.

From a single falling raindrop to the enormity of the north wind, this is nature experienced wholly and acutely, written from the perspective of disabled and chronically ill authors.
