Two flies with eyes so big they cover most of their head mating with one on the back of the other. Their eyes are red and their bodies black. They rest on an oak leaf.
An enjoyable day exploring the oak canopy, tremendous insect diversity including these mating Big-headed Flies (Pipunculidae). The eyes of these bizarre-looking flies cover most of their head. A handheld stack at 1/1250 sec to keep things nice and sharp.
