How come Utah and parts of CO and NV being shaded in the 0-5% range but other states aren't shaded at all? Were slaves present but only in extremely small numbers or is it just a quirk of the data?

Kat agnostic but 'should have lived here longer' always feels a little off to me. So many people in Chicago are transplants of some kind (one of the strengths of the city imo) and frequently the most conservative voices in our local politics are people who have been around forever.
