With a game as rule-breaking as Nier, ideas might come at any moment. When Saito mentions that Platinum Games wants the new title to run at 60 frames per second, Yoko picks up his phone and starts typing out a note. "It would be great to have the game function at 60 frames per second, but that's not an absolute must," Yoko says a minute later. "But through that conversation we were having a moment ago, I thought it might be interesting to have a boss battle where a certain attack he does might drop the framerate ridiculously low." Or maybe, he said, the boss would cause the game's display resolution to drop unexpectedly. Yoko noted this on his phone, too.
So now that I'm (almost) done I went back today to read the interview
-- which, again, was two years prior to the game coming out, so nobody knew ANYTHING about what this game would entail --
and my eyes went wide when I saw Yoko working out a major game feature IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR INTERVIEW:
So, minor confession time: Until very recently I had not played more than an hour or so of Nier: Automata.
I know! I know! I enjoyed the original, I was looking forward to it, and then I lost my job right when it was released...
Anyway I'm nearly all the way through it now, and have a small story:
If you need a Neo CD SD loader and can wait until june of this year, don't buy one from Aliexpress, you'll regret it.
I basically see my "backlog" as my own personal library or museum of sorts, where I can pick and choose whatever I feel like playing right then. I doubt I'll ever play it all, but at least I'm likely to find something that I'm interested in playing at any given time
