I had a student tell me the twentieth century was “so weird.” I was in shock for 20 minutes recovering from this statement.

I remember learning in grad school that they would burn the ships and then take all the metal components and rebuild on the other side.

They are sooo gonna use it. It’s gonna be a nightmare.

The wannabe fascist embodies an incomplete version of fascism. Adopting a messianic style, this type of leader despises any type of deep thinking. For them there is no big picture. Idiocy, extreme narcissism, and an ability to manipulate people and institutions go hand in hand.

A short story about Paraguay. I wrote this a ways back, but it was fun to look at it again and see my creative side. I'm not always a "academic." Sometime I just write for pure enjoyment.

My book Hotel Guaraní has gotten a green light from the editors. I am grateful to everyone who got the book this included outside reviewers.

Thank you for being so honest about the "relaxing movies." I am taking a partial medical leave of absence from my school because of a my asthma, and I am happy to see that you too are trying to find a certain kind of calm to get well.

I cried.

The most painful part was saying goodbye and handing them off to a new instructor.

I will miss each and everyone of them. Even the ones that I will continue to “see” on line.

I left each meeting with positive feelings about the future and saddened that my time with each of them was so limited.

I learned to individual attention matters

I learned they are struggling, but striving

I learned that they are creative and funny people.
