Would love to see any of my NYC data freaks and geeks out tomorrow night!

1000%
yeah but what if your job was Co Founder and CEO of Spite, the Open Iceberg Catalog company
I am telling you I would fund this
no one trusts dbrx….
Again - very different type of catalog though!
well @spite.vc, I hope
Anything owned by the platforms is implicitly meant to perpetuate lock-in and their fat margins
A standalone, good catalog is the path toward data liberation ✊
are you the hero we need?
I would personally fund you going and building a standalone catalog (as long as you call it “Spite”)
Ideally yes but idk if there is money to be made there so I’m skeptical
Also to be clear I’m talking iceberg catalog - not “data catalog” as understood in MDS last few years
The catalog space needs to get sorted out. Snowflake is trying to control it with Polaris, but that’s because they want to stay in the write path themselves and make sure that their engine can always be more performant. Someone needs to step up with an alternative.
had no idea hightouch was this punk rock
fully revolting against DST, if you recognize it it’s your problem
You kid
nah he’s a big memory safety guy
george is already post duckdb, he wrote his own next-gen serverless hybrid query engine backed by a yet-unreleased high performance multi modal file format built for the ground-up for high performance AI apps
ok is this bsky thing actually happening this time?!?
