A few years ago in Malaysia, I crossed paths with a man I’ve come to call Carmelo. He was quiet and kind, with a presence that stayed with me long after our brief exchange. I began to imagine him as a jester: draped in worn, vibrant garments, a figure balancing joy and sorrow. His eyes, unchanged, seemed to speak volumes, full of unspoken stories and quiet wisdom.
