From outputs to outcomes: redefining public sector success Every week when we catch up as a group, our discussions keep coming back to a single, frustrating realisation: our public services are incredibly good at staying busy, but we are struggling to move th...

An appointment is an activity. A healthier life is a result.

If we want to move the needle on climate or health, we have to stop measuring what we spent and start measuring the difference we made.

How I’m dealing with the pressure to adopt AI as a designer β€” mynameismartin I’ve spent the last month trying to catch up with AI in design, and I have news. Things haven't settled, the ground is still moving, and sitting with uncertainty might be the best position right now

A nice way to think about AI as a designer www.mynameismartin.co.uk/blog/how-im-...

β€˜Andor’ Creator Tony Gilroy Gives the Interview He Couldn’t During Its Release While promoting his cautionary tale about fascism, Disney asked Gilroy to refrain from using the word. Nine months after it aired its finale, the 'Star Wars' series feels scarily prescient.

β€œWe were stunned [about the prescience] for a while, but we’ve really gotten to the point where it’s really sad. It’s just sad how predictable and lame and obvious and wrong it all is. Fascism is just a total fail in the end.” www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-featur...

Stuart Russell, a professor of artificial intelligence at the University of California, Berkeley, who closely follows India’s progress, said: β€œIf we get to AGI [artificial general intelligence], AI is going to be producing 80% of the global economy. All manufacturing, most agriculture, all services will be just done; managed by AI, produced by AI.”

Imagine, he said, an Indian village priced out of having a health centre. In the future, AI could design the hospital and β€œalong comes a bunch of giant quad copters carrying the materials, and a bunch of robots come and assemble everything. Two weeks later, you’ve got a hospital.”

I'm astonished this statement could be reported so uncritically.

Let's be real: *IF* AGI is ever developed, all its efforts will be spent making OpenAI profitable and sending Musk to Mars.

Conservatives don't actually value freedom. They are obsessed with controlling others' self expression, religion, reproduction, access to information.

What they mean when they say "freedom" is "lack of natural consequences for antisocial, self-serving actions." What "freedom" means to a toddler.

Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientistβ€”because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.
