“In just three days of fighting in the Middle East, more than 800 Patriot missiles were used — more than Ukraine has received throughout the entire Russian full-scale invasion.”

Reactionaries convinced us for decades that something like gender studies has no practical use in society, and I know many reasonable people also believe(d?) this. It was the butt of the joke for as log as I can remember.
But OMG does this video drive home the point they were wrong.
But even from a purely realist perspective, abandoning the fundamental principles of the liberal international order has been a losing proposition for the great and middle powers that have tried it.
The idea that might makes right is based on a fundamental misreading of power in a globalized world.

Is it a good day for a Clarice Lispector recommendation? It is always a good day for a Clarice Lispector recommendation.
The willingness of major European states such as Britain and France to send their military forces to actively defend counties in the Middle East but not to defend Ukraine shows how Europe has a distorted sense of its own interests.

Since Trump II has now memory holed regime change as an official goal of the US war, we can assume a few things about the postwar landscape:
1. An Iranian regime hellbent on preventing this from happening again. That means rebuilding missile stocks and probably militarizing the nuclear program.
normal caveats about wealth measures vs GSP aside, we should not be surprised that the elite impunity political environment has been good economically for the people on top, and that all of this is not solely about getting to say slurs during business hours

Heard a Bahai commenter on German radio this morning skirt the Pahlavi question in a way that suggests he wouldn't last long on the ground if he ever returned.
That Trump II is killing its way through every level of Iran's leadership until the unqualified recent hires are in charge is consistent with the notion that hegemons always try to export their ideal regime type.
Me, it's the redemptive power of cinema, and dynamite. And I am old enough to know better.
things every single republican president of your lifetime has done
- started a war in the middle east
- completely destroyed the economy
Sharaa outlasted them all

The War Powers Resolution needs a complete overhaul because it's obviously failed, but at the end of the day, there's no procedural trick around having a Congress that's willing to stand back and watch a president flagrantly break the law and the Constitution and do absolutely nothing about it.
Frankly, I expected better from a FIFA Peace prize winner
