I briefly lived in a mid-sized American city where I wanted to take public transportation as I was used to doing elsewhere, but the travel times were literally like 90 minutes (if I got lucky on the once per hour transfer!) for public transit vs 15 min to drive

It amazes me that so many people writing exhaustive analyses of her work don’t take that into account or think it could be of any importance, even though she sometimes spoke herself directly about it! I suppose this just shows that religion is incomprehensible to people who aren’t involved with it

Baptists probably aren't a good proxy for non-dom Evangelicals – in my experience growing up, Focus on the Family adjacent Christians absolutely believed in voting for people whose foreign policy would help bring about the end times, and this hope was absolutely central to their support for Israel

Most mainline Protestants are fairly tolerant of the “contraception and homosexuality” that the kids in the original post are so upset about

Real ID doesn’t prove citizenship so I don’t think it would be accepted for that purpose (resident immigrants also have Real IDs)

Unfair to Colorado tho, which voted against Trump all three times and tried to ban him from the ballot in 2024! (Or maybe it would be a typical Trump move to “positive thinking“ those facts away by naming it Trump Country?)

And how has the bishop not noticed that the dignity of the individual, human rights, political freedom, and equality are all things that Rubio and the entire administration are visibly and obviously opposed to?

Lists originally didn’t include reposts, then briefly did include reposts for a few day a couple weeks ago, then reverted to their original behavior of not showing reposts. (I noticed because my only list’s purpose is to show posts from people who do too many reposts).

Vance is famous for overdoing security to an insane level - like the time he had them shut down all of Disneyland so he could visit

Jamelle Bouie calls JD Vance a little pigman (remix) YouTube video by Brett Land

Headline presumably derived from Jamelle Bouie’s description of Vance as “a little pigman who eagerly gobbles up the slop”

Russell Moore on 'an altar call' for Evangelical America NPR's Scott Detrow speaks with Russell Moore, editor-in-chief of the Christianity Today magazine, about his new book Losing Our Religion: An Altar Call for Evangelical America.

“multiple pastors tell me essentially the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount parenthetically in their preaching - turn the other cheek - to have someone come up after and to say, where did you get those liberal talking points?”

Last year was Hello Kitty's 50th Anniversary! (Which I just realized, to my horror, is not very many years before the 80s...)

Twenty years of economic stagnation probably helped keep things affordable too? (And I’ve never heard someone earning a Japanese wage describe Tokyo as affordable!)

Combine this with the “right to die” legislation and what could go wrong?

I agree, and there is also the valid issue that people with provisional time-limited green cards are also issued Real IDs even though they might lose their green car status befoe the ID expires

A real ID does not require proof of citizenship, because citizenship is not required to get a real ID

Does worsening inhibition mean making people more inhibited or less (or does that depend on the person)?
