I was excited to see a non-politician and non-businessperson run but I have questions.

Yeah, I'm not happy with the run it like a business thing. One of the things that Mamdami is getting right in NYC is that services exist to provide services, not make money or pay for themselves. They should be effective and efficient but not necessarily profitable.
That's probably because it isn't thinking. It's determining which tokens are most likely to match what you told it.
Let's see if the Senate actually vets the new people properly. And gets to work on shutting down ICE. The head may be gone for now, but the problems continue.
Big ugly tears for Fry's dog
"A blistering report issued Wednesday describes decades of child sexual abuse in Rhode Islandβs Catholic churches, documenting accusations against dozens of priests involving hundreds of victims."
Unfortunately, I think the answer this time is 'yes'. Sure would be nice if we were focusing on green power and reining in the AI bros.
Trying each other's cuisine is a great way to build empathy and understanding. I wish we all got to experience the joy and hospitality that these food travelogues show us inside and outside the US. Even if it is somewhat artificial, there's truth there. The world would be better for it.
Thought about Padma Lakshmi's show Taste the Nation this morning. A good look at how immigrants have shaped America's cuisine. Learned about this Persian cookbook through her work: bottomofthepot.com/home/
Everything we've tried from that book has been delicious.
Needed this today
We need to change that narrative. We also need to make sure new green energy deployments don't get bought up by corporations as carbon offsets rather than going to residential ratepayers.
It may be worth calling out explicitly that much of our electricity generation is based on natural gas. If our residential rates go up, our electric bill is not far behind (or already ahead). Right now, folks are looking at that green energy charge on their bill and see that as an easy cut.
Also: who is going to build things with this money and where? As I understand it, most build-able land in RI already has things on it. And new stuff is usually upscale. This is a good headline but where are the specifics?
I checked the campaign website and there's no information at all about what she thinks about the issues. Just volunteer and donate buttons. I'm not a McKee fan but I'm having a hard time finding anything with any depth about what his opposition thinks or would do in office. What am I voting for?
I'm not sure anyone believes that this about Iran may or may not have done anyway. It's posturing for people at home because he's unpopular.
Been rewatching the West Wing lately and President Bartlett raised the same argument and was shot down: youtu.be/uo2prRD2pdA?...
Btw, if you are following the Anthropic debacle, and Minnesota is fresh in your mind, consider the limits your government was not willing to budge on, according to the Anthropic CEO: www.anthropic.com/news/stateme...
He deserves someone challenging him and I hope he loses. I don't know if the other choices in the Dem primary are better, but I don't think they'll be worse.
Slow action on the mini homeless shelters. Throwing the environment under the bus rather than holding tough with RI Energy. Failing to clean house at RIDOT when he should have. Having a persistent whiff of corruption around him from the people he keeps company with.
Can't see the article for the paywall. Did the phrase "climate change" appear anywhere?
Haha, this one was written about 5 years before chatgpt launched. www.smbc-comics.com/comic/conver...
A lot of the stupid and toxic things about the world in which we currently live can be traced back to the philosophy of WIN OR FAIL and it is refreshing to see a legendary world champion caliber athlete tell that entire worldview to go fuck itself
Trumpβs corrupt fossil fuel stooges pretend clean energy is expensive, but reality keeps intruding. Fossil fuel paid good money for those lies, so theyβll keep at it. www.newscientist.com/article/2514...
Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. Itβs always a matter of will not resources.
i went to minneapolis and wrote about what i saw (a massive, robust mutual aid network that is ultimately just a bunch of regular people) and what i didnβt see (thousands of people who are terrified to leave their homes)
I'm happy to be proven wrong here but it seems like one of those small things that we have to remind ourselves isn't normal about how things are run right now.
The only other thing that I can think of named like that are Pell Grants but I don't think Senator Pell named them after himself. That was an honor bestowed because he worked hard on it.
Reading some coverage from @ylepidemiologist.bsky.social and had a random thought. We've normalized the term Obamacare but that isn't the official name for it and I don't think it shows up on official information. TrumpRx though seems to actually be TrumpRx. That's weird, right?
