Inspiring. Seseg gave a very sincere, vulnerable and touching talk at our last @associationruta.bsky.social conference in Ukraine and I encourage everyone to see her illustrations. She has a book coming up on Buryat struggles under Russian colonialism and her own journey after forced Russification
An exhibition exploring anti-nuclear solidarities and Soviet nuclear testing in Central Asia, of particular interest to our RUTA communities, is currently on display in Amsterdam
We are trying to address some of the issues stemming from ‘dissonant’ legacies of racialization and colonial oppression in our latest text with Selbi Durdiyeva On Collateral Damage, Selective Anti-Imperialism and the Path to Liberation
It’s open access: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
The critical discussions we need to have… Such as about the eulogy to Stalin by W.E.B. Du Bois, whose work is crucial to critical race and decolonial scholarship, yet, this selective decoloniality does grave injustice to the liberation struggles of Central & Northern Asia, & Europe’s East
OTD in 1940, as part of "protecting them from fascism", Stalin signed the order to murder 22,000 Polish officers in Katyn. Like our recent crimes, we blamed nazis. This is Stalin writing "approved" on their death warrant.
Imagine crimes against humanity on this scale today..

This was a very, very interesting The RUTA Association webinar. I learned a lot and ordered these two books for the Helsinki University library. Can't wait to read them. Highly, highly recommended www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_85...
If you’re in Berlin on 20 March, come along to the launch of the German edition of my book, ‘The Roma’
eriac.org/book-present...
This was such an important discussion and I cannot recommend these books enough! It’s particularly vital to read them together. Do prompt your libraries to order them, they are incredible sources for teaching and further research on justice, history, philosophy, art, literature, cultures…
Here is a recording of our last RUTA webinar. The discussion revolved around new paradigm shifting books by @magdamatache.bsky.social & @madelinepotter.bsky.social, who revisit Romani histories, rethink how they’re theorised with and envision the path to racial justice

I just attended a panel with Natali at Cafe Kyiv, where she emphasised the active participation of the Romani people in Ukrainian defence and emphasised the need for the state and institution to recognise the crucial socio-political role of the Roma in the Ukrainian society

According to Tomenko, the current war on Ukraine is revealing a deeper historical parallel. The Roma families, who survived the German Nazi occupation and genocide, are now facing a 2nd war in their lifetime, with many Roma fighting in Ukraine’s defense against the ongoing genocidal Russian invasion
Academia? Not surprised!
forbetterscience.com/2026/02/25/r...
Over at Twitter, an assorted combo of paid russian stooges and probably unpaid useful idiots from academia are involved in another cycle of « imagine if Ru did X » about a bunch of international law violations Russia has been committing for a decade. It’s pathetic.
We’re on! Join us

The occupied territories of Ukraine that the US now treats as merchandise were somebody's homes once.

A much-needed analysis of the colonial gaze. There is also much more to be said about the reasons why the Western colonial gaze is so eager to seek out, platform and bond with the Russian colonial gaze
This is what an apartment on the fifth floor in the Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih looks like today, damaged by russian shelling during the night. And this happens every day, only the names of cities and streets change...
Hungarian analysts and several EU diplomats in Budapest fear Orbán may be triggering a long-rumored worst-case scenario: using a fabricated national security threat to crack down on the opposition or even cancel the election. This military deployment puts that scenario into play.
💥Trying to lift falling poll numbers, Viktor Orbán is staging a confrontation with Ukraine, sending a video message to Zelensky hoping Kyiv escalates. Note: Russia—not Ukraine—bombed the Druzhba oil pipeline and Orbán sent no similar warning to Moscow.
The sudden pivot towards “actually, there are serious issues with Ukraine’s possible entry into the EU” in Brussels and the capitals was entirely predictable, as folks from the Western Balkans tried to tell you in 2022. It was never a serious policy proposal but a cruel ploy.
While it’s all nauseating, it also seems - alarmingly - not that different from how the US was acting during the Soviet manufactured famine(s) in Ukraine and across Central and Northern Asia. The betrayal of Western ‘allies’ seems like a remarkably reoccurring issue for Europe’s East and beyond…
This must-read will make you re-think the end of the Russo-Ukrainian war. Esp those who identify as "anti-war" should read it. For most Ukrainians, what matters more is not when the war ends but how, many have adapted to the realization that the end is not in sight www.eurozine.com/the-new-abno...
