Jeffrey Goldberg thinking he was being pranked and then realizing he was actually just in the war plans group chat is such a good microcosm of how it feels to be alive right now, everything seems fake until you realize it’s actually real and incredibly stupid

Opinion | The View Inside Trump’s Assault on Universities The Trump administration’s attacks on universities will lead to the permanent diminishment of vital American institutions.

“What is distinctive about what is happening is that the very concept of the research university as an autonomous institution is under direct attack.”

Book review of Didion and Babitz by Lili Anolik Didion and Babitz is a freewheeling and engaging narrative about two iconic literary rivals and their world in 1970s Los Angeles.

NBCC member @sarahmccrawcrow.bsky.social reviewed Lili Anorak’s "Didion & Babitz" for @readbookpage.bsky.social:

Yes, there are a lot of us! My debut published Oct. 2020, when many bookstores were still closed + election frenzy. Sigh.

We were joking about this very thing with our kids (now in their 20s) the other night, how they always came to our bedroom to throw up on the rug instead of going to the bathroom…it’s funny many years later, though not at the time!

Good morning, writers! Once again, I discovered that the words will come, and new pieces of the story will emerge, if I sit with pen and cheap notebook early in the morning. Even on days when I'm sure that l'm all out of words and story. ✍️

A travel mug that reads: I came, I saw, I forgot what I was doing. Went back, got distracted and have no idea what's going on. Is this my cup? I have to pee.

If you take it literally, “Last Christmas” by Wham! is a song about organ donation from the POV of a ghost.

The ebook of my novel THE WRONG KIND OF WOMAN is on sale today! I don’t know why or for how long, but it’s $2.99. If you like campus novels, the early ‘70s, and stories of second acts, this novel might be for you!

I’ll put the link below.

Movies have led me to believe that at some point in life...

My car brakes will be cut

I'll need to army crawl through an air duct

Someone will wrongfully commit me to a mental institution

I'll accidentally step into quicksand

Water will spill on my Mogwai

It’s true, and I think a time count is probably more useful—that you know you put the time in, even if the words didn’t come. Still, I usually make note of my word count when I’m drafting.

I really enjoyed it, seeing how she pulled it off, and found it funny, and moving/sweet in the end. But some of my friends found it tedious.
