Rethinking terroir for the 21st Century Chris digs into the changing world of natural wine and cider, and considers how we might rethink the concept of terroir in response to the climate crisis.

By no means a new article, but a great read nonetheless. A thoughtful dive into questions about the role of nature vs. human intervention in cider/wine production, and why โ€œnature vs. human interventionโ€ is itself an unhelpful false dichotomy.

Thanks for the input! Iโ€™m new to grafting, so a bit worried Iโ€™ll botch these tender friendsโ€ฆbut there is a workshop next month, so hopefully a bit of expert guidance will help. ๐Ÿ˜

Returned to the wild highway apples to try and collect scionsโ€ฆthis was the absolute best I could get. Is this anything? Theyโ€™re a bit shrimpyโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

I keep thinking โ€œmy god the people theyโ€™ve killed seem like exceptionally good folksโ€ and I think the lesson there is that theyโ€™re not exceptional, but that wonderful people abound and that a baseline distrust in humanity is a shitty conservative trope that privileges power over collective strength

Such discoveries feel like magic! I couldnโ€™t see an obvious graft union, and it has a lot of trunks, so I suspect itโ€™s a seedling, but Iโ€™m still planning to have it DNA tested. ๐Ÿ™‚

One of the most delicious apples I tasted all year came off a tree growing feral off the side of the highway, between the railroad tracks and a car dealership. Iโ€™ll be heading back in a few weeks to cut some scion wood because these amazing apples deserve to continue on and be appreciated!

Youโ€™re Not Addicted to Content, Youโ€™re Starving for Information YouTube video by vlogbrothers

This video from @hankgreen.bsky.social is a great metaphor and description of what I think has happened to the Internet, and our overall "consumption" of information, no matter how nutritious or empty the calories of information we consume are.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they donโ€™t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

No republican should be running unopposed during the next election.

Anywhere. For any position. No matter how small your town is.

A lot of places have the potential to flip after this disaster.

Do it. Run for office.

You are not any less qualified than the people in power right now.
