On Monday night, SCOTUS issued an order indicating they may be inclined to side with policies that force teachers to out LGBTQI+ students to their legal guardians. Forced outing is something kind of hard to talk about. So it felt like maybe we should talk about it. sames.substack.com/parents-righ...

Generative AI isnβt intelligent, but it allows people to pretend that it is, especially when the people selling the software β Altman and Amodei β so regularly overstate what it can do. By giving warmongers and jingoists the cover to βtrustβ this βauthoritativeβ service β whether or not thatβs the case, they can simply point to the specious press β the ethical concern of whether or not an attack was ethical or not is now, whenever any western democracy needs it to be, something that can be handed off to Claude, and justified with the cold, logical framing of βintelligenceβ and βdata.β None of this would be possible without the consistent repetition of the falsehoods peddled by OpenAI and Anthropic. Without this endless puffery and overstatements about the βpower of AI,β we wouldnβt have armed conflicts dictated by what a chatbot can burp up from the files itβs fed. The deaths that follow will be a direct result of those who choose to continue to lie about what an LLM does.
@edzitron.com is bang on the money here. The financial analysis at the start of the post is secondary to this section at the end that very clearly explains the absolute dishonesty and moral vacuity of the people running these AI firms.

Amen brother.
The Illinois Tollway System has almost no visible enforcement, & it wouldn't take many lines of code to come up with automated fines for traversing from exit to exit too quickly.
But they won't because the "value" of the toll is the government looking the other way when so many speed

Echoing this. There's joy in doing new things for the first time, even later in life. Even in school. In work. I'm rooting for you, for finding the joy.
I guess I knew that it would come to this from national.
The question is what to do locally with families here going forward. Our charter, a Presbyterian church, will continue to be welcoming to all.
Never gets old, man
