Personally I'm not a fan of locking the good bits behind a git gud filter. That's what got me to bounce out of Destiny, and why I just never got into 2.

I don't mind the transitory part though. Ultimately that's what skill trees do, and many games have those.

It's just a bit surprising to me given that it's a huge international brand and can sometimes be the only English brand available you'll find in a supermarket (outside the UK).

I think this says a lot about how the game is built so you can only truly experience it once you've fully levelled up.

It's a tall order too - will everyone be able to reach the ship given how they focus a lot of the content towards elite players?

He lives in Newcastle - he mentioned one brand I don't know, and PG, as the expected workers' tea. And I was like you: "Twinings, really? and earl grey specifically? That thing I buy in bulk at the supermarket to make kombucha?"

Today a friend informed me Twinings earl grey could be seen as a bit pretentious, and I need a poll feature on here to settle this right now because the dissonance is hurting my brain.

I just think of it as an effective reminder to be mindful of current and future life choices. It doesn’t have to correlate with ease of finding opportunities. That would be nice though.

100% this. I think it's just that you're playing with a lot of newcomers - one quickly learns how useful the depleted kits actually are after a few runs.

It's super broad strokes and 80% is universal to most production roles, not specific to art. But I like talking about these things. They're much more fundamental to leading an art team than being able to flex pointed art skills. I don't know how much it would resonate with a senior AD though ^^;

the cheap foiled ones. the ones that can be infuriating to unwrap when the foil doesn't want to cooperate. can't get enough.

A riff on a presentation I gave to Nordic Games a few years back. In a nutshell: what's art direction (what you need to flex in your craft as AD), gamedev mindset (collaboration, exploration, holistic approach, taking care of yourself), and leadership/communication/setting the team up for success.

tbh it feels like a direct extension of the 90's and pixel art abstraction approaches - it's just high res and in 3D now. So perfect.

I can't take the cosmic bit super seriously, but it's still fun as a style I think.

As for the visuals it works really well for that universe. I don't think games need to go that hard, but I really like that it does. Having something to say is imo more important than absolute tech/visual fidelity.
