朝起きたら日本がブラジルに勝ってて朝からずっとニュース見てる。ドーハの悲劇をリアルタイムで見て絶望し、初のW杯出場に歓喜し、ドイツW杯でブラジルにボコられヒデが引退したの涙流した世代からすればマジ感慨深い。思えば遠くまで来たもんだ。

少なくとも僕が住むテキサスの都市では住む所、学校、遊ぶ所が完全に分断されていて、何をするにもとにかく車で移動となる。大人から見れば非常に子供コントロールしやすいわけだが、これが本当に子供の“自立”にとって良いかと言うと疑問を抱かざるを得ないんですよね。
イギリスに来てるんだけど、ロンドンやケンブリッジは日本の大都市のそれと似ていて街が有機的に絡まり合い、住居と店と学校が絡まり合っている。それがいいのか悪いのかは別として、街には学校から帰宅する中学生や幼稚園帰りに公園で遊ぶ子供達が溢れており、なんと言うか、人間と言う社会性動物が育つにはこう言う環境の方がいいんじゃないかな、と思ったり。

Just in NIH grants, It looks like beautiful Iowa City, home of the U of Iowa, will lose $71m in funding. That's almost $1k per resident. And that's before all the other cuts to SSA, FDA, etc.

韓国系日本料理屋に行ったけど厨二病感がすごかった。
空気抜けてればなんでもいいと思います。基本的に安い時にまとめて買って真空パックで冷凍してるんで、そのまま低音調理にぶっ込む感じですかね。
2年前くらいに買ってようやく1/3位読み終えたけど(話が長すぎ、冗長すぎていつも途中で読み終えてしまう…)、ほんと英語の本は早く読めるようにならないなぁ…

I saw today in Japanese restaurant that somebody “insert” chopsticks into rice like this picture. This is how to serve meal to dead people in Japan…we are taught we never ever should do when we eat with chopsticks so whenever I see somebody in US does this, I feel really strange…
