Ultimately, we see that models whose stability-humidity relationship is similar to reanalyses tend to produce greater increases in CAPE and boundary-layer MSE under warming.
We find that some models produce similar diagnosed entrainment rates to reanalyses, but others produce weak or even negative (unphysical) entrainment rates.
These unphysical entrainment rates could be tied to a lack of a plume-based mixing scheme in the model.
The diagnosed entrainment rate is based on the relationship between stability and humidity in the tropical troposphere that we found in our previous work.

Our study is published at a frustrating time in Australian politics, with the Coalition recently dropping its target of net zero by 2050. However, we find that delaying net zero by even 5-10 years leads to hotter, longer and more frequent heatwaves.

In our study, led by @sarahinscience.bsky.social, we find that the intensity, length and frequency of heatwaves do not return to pre-industrial levels under net zero - and in many regions barely improve at all.
