Some excellent practical advice here - only thing I'd add is this affects tickets *purchased* from 1st April. Buy this month for travel in April/May and the refund rules are as per now.
Honestly? Avanti/EMR sets aside my only real gripe is the seat longevity/comfort. They weren’t built to last and are looking threadbare particularly in Standard, at next refurb GBR need to rip ‘em out and put new ones in.
Agree if that's the end destination (it has no appeal to me). I do feel sorry for those trying to get between UK/Europe and Australia/NZ though as their options are suddenly much more limited. Singapore entirely booked up until at least Tuesday, similarly Cathay/KL.

It’s all good quality too - the metal bottle particularly, some branded ones can be rubbish for keeping drinks cold!
Unfortunately due to a sleeper cancellation along with the continued suspension of Hamburg-Copenhagen, both due to the weather in Northern Germany, my no-fly Oslo trip is now involving a train with wings, off to Copenhagen where the adventure resumes….

Wordfence - particularly important to trust your security plugins and between breach notifications, bounty programs and personal experience of their responsible disclosure practices, they’ve really built a trusting relationship such that I wouldn’t usually consider any alternative.

(OBB is on my mind from the ski trains last year where I was flat out refused a change/refund from ES after an OBB train was delayed missing the connection - appreciate that’s not currently relevant!)

It makes no sense and is a major flaw with ES too who seem to see themselves as in isolation as much as they can get away with. They could do so much more with eg onward travel on NS/OBB, connections info etc. but they live in a bubble.

That’s….not terrible. You see, unlike the actual train design that is simple, stylish and gets the message across. Bin off the train design and get the agency for the digital comms to redo that too, with budget for time to look at what other iconic liveries look like.
