Why is sea level rise worse than we think?
Typo correction: "HOW"
Sharing the article I wrote for Esquire Philippines about the Greenland crisis. In it, I examine how escaliting geopolitical tensions in the Arctic intersect with the climate crisis, and hoe these developments ultimately impact us as Filipinos. www.esquiremag.ph/long-reads/n...
This infographic from the World Economic Forum shows global risks ranked by severity over two time periods: 2-year (short term) and 10-year (long term). The title reads "Global risks ranked by severity" with the WEF logo in the top right corner. The chart is divided into two columns, with risks color-coded into four categories: Environmental (green), Geopolitical (orange), Societal (red), and Technological (purple). In the short term (2 years), the top risks are: Geoeconomic confrontation Misinformation and disinformation Societal polarization Extreme weather events State-based armed conflict In the long term (10 years), the ranking shows: Extreme weather events Biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse Critical change to Earth systems Misinformation and disinformation Adverse outcomes of AI technologies Both columns continue to rank risks through position 10, with environmental concerns featuring more prominently in the long-term outlook. The source is cited as "World Economic Forum Global Risks Perception Survey 2025-2026."
New World Economic Forum Global Risks data provides a stark warning: While short-term crises dominate headlines, "Biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse" jumps to the 2nd highest risk over the 10-year horizon.
The long term is sooner than we think. Science-based policies via IPBES are crucial.π
A worldview governed by strength, force, and power carries an existential risk. When international relations are stripped of "niceties" and governed solely by force, the foundations of global stability begin to crumble, and only raw conflict remains.
The Churchillian myth of shared Western values is wearing threadbare, and Greenland has become the canary in the coal mine. When strategic chokepoints and rare-earth reserves are at stake, the "rules-based order" seems to evaporate in favor of personal and oligarchic interests.
Wearing my Global Politics, International Relations, and European Studies hat for a moment to weigh in on the current state of the world:
The Global South isnβt waiting for the West to save the planet.
I don't need AI to help me with research and writing. I need AI to do all my chores and manual labor (e.g. laundry, cleaning, etc.) so I can focus on more important work and my writing.

π§It's #WorldWaterDay!
This #WaterDay, learn about WRIβs Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas, showing that 25 countries, housing 1/4 of the global population, face extremely high water stress each year, regularly using up almost their entire available water supply.

Journal publications should do the same. Research reports and scientific articles based on public records or those that are publicly-funded should be open access.
Extreme weather events last year displaced the most people since 2008 and exacerbated a food crisis in more than a dozen countries, the World Meteorological Organization says
Primum non nocere.
Sir Chito was also the first person who came to mind. He was my mentor and ninong. He once encouraged me to consider a career in HR law, but I pursued a different path. He was the one who reminded me about being constant to my advocacy.
The image shows a sunset over Lake Tanganyika, with golden light reflecting on the calm water. Dark clouds fill the sky, and several boats float in the distance. White text overlays the image, reading: βPROTECTING BIODIVERSITY & HALTING LAND DEGRADATION in the Lake Tanganyika Basin.β The UN Environment Programme logo is positioned in the top right corner.

Things that didn't make the news that will likely change our lives for the better
The news is not an accurate reflection of the world.
Good news doesn't get reported as much.
Here are the wonderful things researchers have achieved recently.

An interesting take on the intersection of art and nature.
Countering #misinformation isnβt just about the factsβitβs about how those facts spread through social networks and communities. #Science being right isnβt enough; it must be accepted within social circles to make an impact.

The most important quality in a mentor, teacher, or coach is not how much they know. It's how much they care.
Caring is more than taking pride in your success. It's feeling joy as you progress.
The people you want in your corner are the ones who celebrate your growth.

It takes curiosity to learn. It takes courage to unlearn.
Learning requires the humility to admit what you don't know today. Unlearning requires the integrity to admit that you were wrong yesterday.
Learning is how you evolve. Unlearning is how you keep up as the world evolves.
Ignorance & arrogance - move fast, break things and by the time the law catches up, people are dead, institutions are destroyed ... fait accompli ... that's the strategy. The impact will be felt in decades: that's what we learned in the Philippines. www.amazon.com/How-Stand-Up...
Thanks for your work in the Philippines! I worked in two USAID projects on climate change mitigation and GHG inventory from 2012-2016. Our work then helped govt agencies prepare for the climate negotiations and GHG emissions reporting to UNFCCC. Our past work would be futile if the shutdown happens.
