Hmmmm. I have a BjS and their gas on the credit card ( a luxury) alone is worth the price. However a Costco may finally low so I have to figure it out. Currently have 3 teens so I can hit a different grocer basically everyday for an essential and be fine. The fridge never closes at my house.

My grandfather’s family was split up as kids and sent to relatives bc his father wasnt earning enough to support the family pre-depression era. Then they did well enough during the depression they felt relatively rich. He never forgot it.
This didn't happen. The perception that it did is largely based on fictional shows that were about rich people. Much more common was a household where one person (theoretically Dad in a het household) was the higher earner and paid the housing costs and the other paid utilities & food
