“Today, the MTA filed papers in federal court to ensure that the highly successful program – which has already dramatically reduced congestion, bringing reduced traffic and faster travel times, while increasing speeds for buses and emergency vehicles – will continue notwithstanding this baseless effort to snatch those benefits away from the millions of mass transit users, pedestrians and, especially, the drivers who come to the Manhattan Central Business District. It’s mystifying that after four years and 4,000 pages of federally-supervised environmental review – and barely three months after giving final approval to the Congestion Relief Program – USDOT would seek to totally reverse course.”

Few urbanists can really be called game-changers, but Shoup powerfully changed how we see parking rules and their huge affect on cities.
The recent revolution in parking standards was inspired by his unique work.

USDOT has signed the Value Pricing Pilot Program agreement with New York, enabling the start of congestion pricing in New York City in early January.

The @nytransitmuseum.bsky.social has announced the return of the Holiday Nostalgia Train for 2024. Trains will run each Sunday in December from 2nd Ave. (F) to 96th St. (Q) between 10-5:30. Hopefully the foamers behave this year and don't ruin it for everyone else.
All of the NYC Metro area is now in a Level 2 (Severe) drought, with a Level 3 (Extreme) drought in parts of Southern NJ. Dry weather and windy conditions are expected to lead to a continued risk of wildfire spread over the next several days.
