Does she have a nightlight and a ceiling fan in her room? Sometimes, the light reflects off the moving fan blades in the dark and can look like fireflies flying around to children.
That's my best guess.

Russia is currently banned from the Olympics by the IOC. This video must be from years ago.
Bluesky doesn't let you pin a non-quote repost, so I'm reposting this again.

I really hate that the media focuses on one athlete and plays them up like all of the U.S.'s medal hopes are on them. They did the same thing to Simone Biles, and we saw what that pressure did to her mentally. Yet the media learned nothing from it.

We all feel that way at some point.
Theyβre taking kids from Minnesota and sending them to detention camps. Theyβre shooting American citizens in the street and locking investigators out of the crime scenes. The world is watching what happens next.

Entering the U.S. w/o documentation wasn't a crime until George W. Bush's administration made it one. Before that, it was a civil court matter. It's only been a "crime" for about 20 years out of our country's 250-year history. Some of the targeted immigrants were here before that.
ICE just shot another one of my neighbors. They had the person on the ground, being beaten by several agents, and then fired multiple shots. In front of the donut shop where we like to get donuts for our kids.
I swear, one day a billionaire is going to declare ownership of the sun and start charging everyone for sunlight.
I'm pleased to announce my short story, "We Told You of the One Who Lives in the Mound," is a nominee for the 2025 Brave New Weird Award from Tenebrous Press!

I donβt think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.
Ad for beta version of live status on Bluesky reading, "Show when you're live."
I misread this popup as "Show when you're alive" and thought to myself, "Damn, it's only been 5 days since my last post, and you already think I'm dead?"
Native Americans are citizens of the United States. Although Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has no jurisdiction over citizens on immigration matters, ICE has targeted Tribal citizens and descendants. We've made two flyers to help individuals protect themselves: buff.ly/wyH57GY

I actually found it cathartic when she sprayed the crowd with blood. All those people who said she wasn't young enough or pretty enough, and even when she was young and pretty again, they still scrutinized her appearance and demanded she smile. Her blood was on their hands and everywhere else.
Can we all agree that the U.S. government is a scrap-and-redo at this point? How many times can it make the same fucking mistake?
Another war. Another oil grab. Another invasion. Another regime change. Another puppet government installed.
American imperialism must end.

I got "inspiring." Hopefully, it's the good kind of inspiring and not "inspiring rage," which is what 2025 did for me.
Thank you!

My 2025 roundup isn't as impressive as others'. I only had one story published (a hazard of working full time while also going to school). "We Told You of the One Who Lives in the Mound" appeared on PseudoPod in July.

Thank you so much for your interest!
I only have 4 stories published so far. The darkest is "What Mel Knows" (1,300 words) about time travel gone wrong. "The Wager" (4,800 words) is more fun and New Orleans oriented. "We Told of the One Who Lives in the Mound" (1,400 words) is the deepest and based on semi-real events.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Links to all of my stories are on my website here: www.almunson.com/publications/
I did write a whimsical horror poem (which you can read here: www.metastellar.com/fiction/flas...). I thought it was cute, but the feedback I got was "disturbing," "eerie," or the flip side "too goofy."
Thankfully, I've never gotten that response from my family. But since most of my stories are horror, I would have to do something *very* wrong to make someone say, "It's cute."
The donkey scene was way worse for me.
