4/ And still: RC won 67 of 151 Assembly seats in 2025. Their candidate came within 0.2% of Noboa. Voters rejected his entire constitutional agenda in November. The Ecuadorian people have not surrendered. Neither have we.
3/ Eight years of this: Interpol rejected Ecuador's arrest warrants against Correa 3 times as "obviously political." Belgium granted asylum. The UN Special Rapporteur documented persecution. The Aleaga Leaks showed the US Embassy working against RC's electoral victory.
2/ The case rests on a preliminary investigation and one witness: a former RC legislator expelled after being charged with sexual abuse of a minor. This is the evidence base for suspending a movement of millions. Statements: international.dsausa.org/statements
1/ Ecuador's government just suspended Revolución Ciudadana — the country's most popular political movement — from the electoral registry for 9 months. No formal charges. One judge. 48 hours. Timed to block RC from 2027 local elections. This is lawfare. The DSA International Committee condemns it. 🧵

With its start as a civil association in 2006, tremendous success in the face of the long-standing right-wing political hegemony, and inherent contradictions as a big-tent party, MORENA’s successes and struggles offer a great deal of insight for DSA.
Part one of the exchange will focus on the histories of both movements, current debates and ongoing political issues within each organization, and the material conditions for organizing in both countries.
