There is *no* ethical use of genAI. It is built on stolen art, through exploitative labour, and every day as they train new model and answer query, they burn immense amount of energy & water.
It has no place in our field, none.
Duane Kearns Puryear, holding his panel for the AIDS Memorial Quilt. It reads, in block letters: "My name is Duane Kearns Puryear. I was born on December 20, 1964. I was diagnosed with AIDS on September 7, 1987 at 4:45 PM. I was 22 old. Sometimes, it makes me very sad. I made this panel myself. If you are reading it, I am dead..." There are several great resources to learn about Duane, his advocacy, his family, his panel, and the politics of memory and re-creation, especially this one by The Dallas Way: http://www.thedallasway.org/stories/written/2021/9/19/duane-puryears-and-the-quilt-panel Duane Puryear died in 1991.
It's your birthday, Duane.

Yesterday at a certain point with my tattoo artist, I was like "I can't participate in conversation anymore bc pain but please keep talking" and she talked me through her entire 6th play-thru of this game in which she finally tried "dark urge" and had regrets! but it was very relaxing for me.

cover of THE SHAPE OF MONSTERS, book 2 in the Moon Heresies Trilogy, by Tessa Gratton against a dark teal background with stars and threads of magic. Cover depicts a brown skinned young man in a sleeveless red-brown robe pulling apart threads of magic with his bare hands. His left eye is golden and possibly connected to the magical threads. Beneath him is a magical bronze city-scape, and in the gray-brown sky a single bright blue star falls.
