If you want to take your mind off awful politics and look at awful science stuff instead, this is a good read: www.sciencedetective.org/scientific-d...
I'm sure it's a pure coincidence that all the people who Streeting takes 'expert advice' from have an easily discoverable anti-trans bias.
More than four years ago then-first minister Nicola Sturgeon said it would be βfundamentally wrongβ to keep extracting fossil fuels indefinitely. Today, ministersβ language on new projects like Rosebank is noticeably more cautious. We looked at what changed

In 1953, at Churchill's instigation, and with his assistance, the CIA launched two coups against the democratically elected government of Mohammad Mosaddegh, the 2nd of which succeeded. Why? Because he rightly sought to nationalise Iran's oil supplies, which the UK was taking: seizing Iran's wealth.
This is madness.
This is equivalent to evacuating large parts of Paris or Houston. Where are all these people supposed to go?

Kanwal Sibal @KanwalSibal ... The Iranian ship will not be where it was if we had not invited it to talk part in our Milan exercise. We were the hosts. I am told that as per protocol for this exercise ships cannot carry any ammunition. It was defenceless. The Iranian naval personnel had paraded before our president. The attack by the US submarine was premeditated as the US was aware of the Iranian ship's presence in the exercise to which the US navy was invited but withdrew from participation at the last minute, presumably with this operation in mind. The US has ignored India's sensitivities as the ship was in these waters because of India's invitation. We are far from politically or militarily responsible for the US attack. Our"responsibility" is at a moral and human plane. A word of condolence by the Indian Navy ( after political clearance) at the loss of lives of those who were our invitees and saluted our president would be in order.
This is fucking dirty behaviour from the US. Iβm so ashamed to be in a allied country with its bases.
Pls re-post: My department @oxfordbiochemistry.bsky.social are recruiting for several new faculty positions (links below). Broad search in molecular biology/biochemistry, across prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Interested in understanding life at the molecular level, this job might be for you!

The science is as over-hyped and borderline fraudulent as the ethics are thorny (and that doesn't even count the George Church, friend of Epstein angle)
One thing people might not know about Kuwait is that there is a large Palestinian diaspora there. The Kuwaiti government imprisoned many Palestinians just before the Iraq War as they viewed Palestinians as sympathetic to Saddam Hussein.

After a week in London at #R2RConf and #CopimConference my open research roadshow continues at a 'Scottish Research Integrity and Culture Week' event at @rcsed.bsky.social in Edinburgh where I'm on a panel to talk about 'expanding openness' for arts + humanities.
The Scottish Liberal Democrats used our debate in Holyrood today to hold the SNP government to account for its failure to close the poverty-related attainment gap, ten years after Nicola Sturgeon set this deadline and asked to be judged on this issue.
One week left to register and submit your abstract for the UK C. elegans meeting. Southampton, April 15th-17th. @gensocuk.bsky.social

Politicians often see 'doing nothing' as the safe option, because they don't get blamed for longer-term changes.
This, however, would be a big change, and it would only be right to blame the decision-makers for each and every KSI that results from it.
God, this response is both tin-eared and disingenuous. If Mahmood's proposals are so reasonable, why won't she submit them to proper democratic scrutiny, particularly as Labour have a majority in the House?: www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Reckless and irresponsible at a time when we should be doubling down on renewables not cutting tax to fossil fuel fuel giants.

Heater with giant, expressive eyeballs, peering into a bathtub with her little white paws on the lip of the tub. Her body is roughly the size of a shampoo bottle.
I can't get over this picture of Heater. Every time @katmabu.bsky.social takes a bath, she acts like she's witnessing the Hindenburg explosion for the first time. This cat is SIX years old. Pixar-ass cat. I love her so much.
The Prime Minister is asked about abolishing leasehold.
He answers on management companies and ground rents that makes it really clear Labour have no intention of abolishing leasehold.
