Perth, Western Australia I don't label myself or my outlook on life here, especially as my views and priorities may change over time. However, a longstanding tenet of mine is "Do as you would be done by", which works for me. Take me as you find me.
If you don't mind about the legality or morality of a torpedo attack on an (apparently) unarmed Iranian frigate returning from joint exercises in the Indian Ocean, how do you feel about Australia now being a potential target for retaliation?
OUR personnel. Bases on OUR land used for this.

This is very important.
Since, as they have announced and demonstrated repeatedly, the USA have decided that the established rules no longer apply to them, Australian personnel must be withdrawn from the USA attack fleet immediately so that they/we are not complicit in ongoing crimes.
#Auspol
Given that that the current US administration has announced that "U.S. will not follow “stupid rules of engagement” in its operations against Iran, emphasizing a focus on winning rather than adhering to traditional military or political constraints"
Australian personnel must be withdrawn.

Image of Lowitja O'Donaghue. In the 1976 Australia Day Honours, she became the first Aboriginal woman to be inducted into the new Order of Australia founded by the Labor Commonwealth Government. The appointment, as a Member of the Order (AM) was "for service to the Aboriginal community". In 1982 she won an Advance Australia Award. O'Donoghue was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 1983 New Year Honours for service to the Aboriginal community, and was named Australian of the Year in 1984, for her work to improve the welfare of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Lowitja O'Donaghue
She was strong, wise, kind and a powerhouse of energy, particularly in support of Indigenous people. She suffered no fools gladly but was always graceful & fair in setting them straight. She is sorely missed.
Image of Rosa Parks Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was an American civil rights activist whose refusal to surrender her bus seat to a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955 ignited the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Already active in the NAACP, Parks’ arrest became a key test case against segregation. The 381-day boycott, led by Martin Luther King Jr., ended with a Supreme Court ruling desegregating buses. She continued her activism in Detroit and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and Congressional Gold Medal.
Rosa Parks
May her bravery be remembered for ever.

Morticia Addams was a beautiful icon, wasn't she:
Graceful, kind, gentle & unfailingly polite, but steely inside that velvet glove when required; Resolute; Inclusive & respectful of others despite a very unusual upbringing & world view.
I loved her as a child, & I think she was a great role model.
To be clear, I don't think that the President of the United States is actually driving this, whatever he may think.
I think you might be assuming prematurely who/what might actually be driving this & missing what their agenda might be.
What if the interim goal IS chaos in the ME, with the ultimate aim of total control, & in the process recruiting other nations (by whatever means) to that new world view?

Or comparative religion, with a good curriculum and competent teaching....
No place for “scripture” class in a public and supposedly secular school in my opinion - time could be so much better spent teaching kids about ethics, or engaging them in charity work … any of the number of ways to be a better human without any reference to religion or dogma
💯 it’s a bizarre culture we’re in when professional people who choose to send their kids to perfectly good local public schools (despite the option of private schooling potentially being financially accessible) are not only in the vast minority but also considered by their peers to be a bit weird
I have an old habit of not necessarily believing everything I read. However, I wouldn't have reposted the article unless I thought it was at least credible.
And this is so unspeakably horrible that I don't want it to be true, even though I accept that it probably is - if that makes sense.
Is this true?
If so, it is evil.

This is a good listen and made me feel slightly better
Leaving aside the many other things to be said about this, why did AA bother saying that Aus. personnel "did not participate in any offensive action". Is he saying that there was something wrong with the action?
Will he now withdraw all other Aus. personnel from the US attack fleet?
Why not?
#Auspol
I doubt that #Auspol was privy to the plans for this attack before it started - they are now being wedged into joining in.
However, I think that the people who launched the attack knew very well what would happen, particularly in the way they did/ are doing it, which is to maximise harm & offence.

To my mind there are 2 credible interpretations:
1. #Auspol et al didn't anticipate that Israel + USA were about to do this at all;
2. They expected Iran to respond with restraint, as it did to earlier attacks, & didn't anticipate the clear effort to maximise provocation & ensure a furious response.

From Afghanistan to Iraq, we have seen it time and time again, the US betraying the people it said it would protect. The US is not a force for peace, Trump does not care about the Iranian people and the US and Israel are not bombing Iran for peace.
"Some members of the Australian Shia community genuinely retain respect for a Shia leader like Khamenei, who they may dislike but regard as deserving of respect — particularly in death."
Nobody should be told whom they are and are not allowed to mourn - or whom or how they must mourn.

Single frame. Karoline Leavitt on the press briefing lectern with a US flag and a large “chocolate wheel” with coloured panels showing: “REGIME CHANGE -YAY!; THEY’RE TERRORISTS!; THEY HAVE NUKES!; THEY DOT HAVE NUKES YET; WE WANT TO REPLACE THE LEADER; WE KILLED THE REPLACEMENTS; ARMAGEDDON!!!; PRE-EMPTIVE SELF-DEFENCE; BIBI IS OUR FRIEND; (SOME SCHOOLGIRLS MAY HAVE DIED); WHAT OIL?!; MID-TERMS - YIKES!” Leavitt says, “Next question?”
Spin.
My @smh cartoon.
Unfortunately (rightly or wrongly & however we got into this position), I think that it might be too f**king difficult to call this out as should be done, depending on what one is trying to protect.
BTW, "most other countries" are fairly quiet too - same reason.
This is disgusting & awful.
I'm as disappointed as anyone in what this government has failed to realise from its last election result. However, I would not want to be walking the tightrope of international relationships that they are negotiating now on our behalf.
We're in perilous times, at the mercy of psychopaths.

Given that Iran had made very clear that if attacked they'd retaliate with force, & that there are numerous USA bases in surrounding countries, I interpret this response from PW as meaning "Our 'allies' did not warn us before they started a major regional war via an illegal attack on Iran."
