Duskfall really stood out to me for two specific reasons: The Evolution of the Supernatural. Your concept of vampires "leaving the graveyard and entering the boardroom" is a fascinating social commentary. Seeing the stagnation of mystical tradition contrasted with the "leaps and bounds" of science provides such a rich, textured history for humanity's flight to the stars. The Burden of the Protagonist. Stephen Halder is a compelling study in loyalty. Battling to protect a family that killed him, while being bound to a millennia-old monster, creates a level of internal conflict that is rare in the genre. It’s "arcane study" met with deep, human longing.

Starfleet Academy going from an episode where a dude is eaten alive and thrown out of an airlock by space pirates to an episode of "talking to girls is really hard" is the kind of tonal whiplash I love.

Not even an "I can fix her" but a "she can make me worse."

After extensive research, the exact moment The Simpsons started to go downhill is Season 7 Episode 17 Homer The Smithers, when Mr. Burns calls what is clearly a flail a mace.

A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well they strengthen their souls.

This single line is the one I get the most complaints about, but no one considers why that line exists. Authors have intentions behind the words and phrases we choose to use. #writingcommunity #indieauthor #booksky
