Here is a little piece about my new book, released this Friday www.transformingsociety.co.uk/2026/02/20/w...
Thanks to everyone who came to last night’s chat in Dollar at the fantastic Wee Bookshop. Was very happy to be able to make it up.

If you have read Drifting North or attended one of the launch events, please also take two minutes to fill in this survey for the University of Glasgow uofg.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...
If you’re in Fife, Clacks, Stirlingshire or West Lothian a little event for you tomorrow evening.
There are two events this week linked to Drifting North - First up is the sold out Festival of Politics panel on the upcoming election and net zero in Holyrood on Monday, and on Friday in conversation with Gabriella Bennett at the Wee Bookshop in Dollar www.weebookshop.co.uk/events/drift...
The Dawlish - Teignmouth railway line feels like the absolute front line of climate adaptation in Britain (a test we are not passing so far).
And yet somehow, somehow, this article manages to go in-depth on the problems with the line without mentioning the climate once. The sea is literally higher!
BBC's Arabic radio service in Lebanon closed after 85 years as part of a £28.5m savings drive. 'Just months later, in October 2023, the Russian state-owned Sputnik news agency took over the frequency. Its news bulletin opened with “This is Moscow”, replacing the previous “This is London” intro.' 🙄

Drifting North has been longlisted for the 2026 Highland Book Prize. Very humbled to find this out and thank you to everyone who has supported the project.
"We don’t entirely understand how the Earth’s system would react to removing carbon dioxide. Is there some kind of hysteresis loop. This hysteresis, or lag effect, could mean that even if temperatures are lowered, the planet may not return to its previous state." www.thetimes.com/uk/environme...

I've also been asked to remind you that I have another (this time academic) book out in February, based on my work on public understanding of climate change bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/journalism-i...
I've been rather quiet as a combo of a very intensive book tour and university events absolutely floored me. Just wanted to say thankyou all for your support with Drifting North this year and especially to those of you who came to the tour events. Need to recover a bit, but see you all in 2026.
a world map with locations of extreme weather event studies by WWA in pink & yellow dots
Looking back to @wwattribution.bsky.social studies in 2025 showed again, in stark terms, how unfairly the consequences of human-induced climate change are distributed. The world does not have to be like this, we have a lot of agency to make it better. www.worldweatherattribution.org/unequal-evid...
Nice to see you Bissie. Thanks for coming all the way!
🧐🤔🤨
Where are global CO2 emissions heading?
Middle-of-the-road? But just because we have followed the SSP2-45, SSP4-60 path for 10 years, does not mean we follow it for the next 70 years.
Policy & technology have pushed the world away from the high-end, but 2.7C in 2100 & rising is not a good outcome!

The word of the year is “Parasocial”. Perhaps not unrelated to last year’s “Brainrot”? 🧐
