They are so close to eating out of my hand (bearing in mind that this is a five-ish year relationship and I think a few different families visit me), too. I know they know that this is what I want most in this world (beyond abolishing capitalism and selling all my clients' books). They know I know.
My crows are little shits. They will fly by my windows or sit on a car and click and scream and basically incessantly beg for my attention and then when I go out to feed them, they just preen and look around.
I love them so much
For anyone who thought Imogene, my haunted doll lamp, was creepy, I would like to alert you to Margo over here. She smokes six packs per day even though she died last century and she's had just about enough of your shit. I saw her in a shop window and I left her there. But I love her
Thank you, my friend! We'll have a blast. Now I just gotta get the apartment in visitor shape. π
It's why I love them
From a distance
There was talk of bubbles and turtles. I have no idea.
Hooray for Jessie!
(Disclaimer: I had nothing to do with this being published, I just have great taste in clients. π)
BEYOND SEVEN FORESTS is both a page-turning tale of peril and a hopeful exploration of human connection and resilience in the face of hardship. Author Amanda McCrina joins us today to share how she developed Renata's story, how Polish folklore plays a part in the narrative, and more.
Tonight I heard a man incorrectly explain the Socratic method to a woman. Words cannot express how incorrect he was. I am positive I was not subtle in my abject horror (I couldn't help but overhear him despite my own conversation, my brain does this), but positively saintly in my restraint.
Oh you KNOW it. I have my spiked collar still...I think...
A photo of an ice cream machine with a sign reading, "Anything is possible with ice cream." Beneath that is a hand lettered sign reading, "No ice cream".
2026 basically
"We do not poop on our friends," I say to the crows.
The crows: *immediately start brawling instead*

That sounds so sweet! I mostly spent my time knowing that no one immediately needed anything from me. You're a mom so I know you know what that means!
I am officially taking my mom to Nine Inch Nails for her birthday, which is like giving her the gift of reliving my angstiest goth years for a few hours, RIGHT NEXT TO ME. This is every mother's dream, right? Reliving and creating precious memories?
Thank you, my friend! I hope you had a great one yourself β did you do anything special?
Valentine's Day for my two personalities
You may laugh, but the Macbeths are a much better role model for a marriage than Romeo and Juliet. They discuss their problems (killing the king of Scotland), share their hobbies (killing the king of Scotland), and resolve their conflicts (by killing the king of Scotland).
I'm not sure I'd sell my ENTIRE soul, but I would probably at least rent it out if I could just get a real-time directory of editors, where they currently work, when they're on leave, and when they're otherwise not acquiring.
We have the technology. Now I just need a minor crossroads demon.
Are you an educator in a community that has been hit hard by book bans? We Need Diverse @weneeddiversebooks.bsky.social is establishing the Unbanned Book Network. Educators have until February 13 to apply. 20 sites will be selected to receive free books, author visits, & other resources
Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.
A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:
A very large crow with his beak full of treats
Three crows standing on a sidewalk like they're posing for their debut grunge album cover
His greed sickens me #asthecrowflies

"What do you MEAN, I'm not perfect and a massive lottery win isn't on its way to me tomorrow? This is bullshit!"
Same! I shouldn't be surprised π€£ I have her antique anatomy tarot and the oracle deck that includes the lenormand, too. I love them so much, although I don't pick them up as much as some of my more expressive decks. But when I do it's always this "hahaha this deck is so me" experience.
I also made her "love potion" cardamom/rose/vanilla/honey/salt syrup, which is absolute heaven in seltzer. (Probably would make an amazing ice cream topping too!) Highly recommend this book if you think cheese is magic and you love timing your food with the seasons.
I recently got CHEESE MAGIC by Erika Kubick and spent the lead up to the Imbolc weekend making several of her delicious recipes: burrata with honey and chili crisp, a brie/raspberry tart with homemade black pepper orange marmalade, and a pickled beet salad with "seeded gravel."
