the illustrations can be characterised by the great balance between detail and simplicity. he lived to the age of 75. you can see his illustrations next to my print. 3/3
so he made art showing concentration camps after the war. this is also why he made an amazing scientific illustrator that were featured in a lot of prominent books in Poland. his art inspires others and serves as amazing references to this day. 2/3
to elaborate, he was a prisoner of Auschwitz. he wasn’t killed because his oppressors forced him to make their portraits and signs for the camp. but he also risked his life making portraits of other prisoners, some of which were secretly sent to their families. he had amazing visual memory 1/?

the print with a fire salamander was inspired by Władysław Siwek’s illustrations - amazing Polish scientific illustrator also known for documenting his time in concentration camp. if it wasn’t for his art, he wouldn’t have survived. after the war, he was making illustrations of animals. #printmaking

it’s a block i carved two years ago as a part of a small birds of fruit trees series, but printed only recently. i like the textures used, especially on the bird #printmaking

it’s not a good platform for artists, really :(
i actually don’t use lino, but homogenous PVC flooring, mostly Tarkett brand. it holds more detail than traditional lino and can get some offcuts for free from flooring stores
