Happy International Womenβs Day! πͺ π
Just your regularly scheduled share of this masterpiece by @tomgauld.bsky.social
Appalling in every sense of the word. That some church leaders ignore what is clear and shamelessly showcase and platform such behaviour is bewildering and dangerous.
Dear President Donald J Trump,
I hereby demand the immediate annexation of Hawaii. It requires my ownership to defend the unsecured island. I am ruling out the use of force, yet I demand you come forward to immediately negotiate its immediate transfer to my ownership.
Yours,
Revd. David P. Tubby
Diagram titled 'Possible causes of your problems'. On the left hand side, subtitled 'Yes': Funding removed from local councils, growing gap between rich and poor, multinational companies not paying their taxes, lack of new affordable housing, government not investing sufficiently in schools and healthcare. On the right hand side, subtitled 'No': Picture of small boat, with arrow; 'People fleeing horrific situations that you and I can't imagine'.
Possible causes of your problems. Itβs a diagram that (sadly) still seems relevant in 2025, so reposting a year and a bit on.
This. The world must not watch on in complicit silence.
The witch trials of 1612 still cast a long shadow.
A letter signed by 213 organisations which reads: Dear Party Leaders Anti-refugee protests across the country have been distressing to witness, with echoes of last summerβs riots making them all the more alarming. Many of the people targeted have already suffered unimaginably, having fled for their lives from countries such as Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iran, Sudan and Syria. Now, due to unacceptable delays and a broken system, they are housed in hotels, a collective target of hostility, banned from working, with limited control over their lives or futures. Believing they will at last be safe and protected, they are then faced with further persecution and fear. It is clear that major action is needed. It is time for you, our leaders, to take a strong and united stand. The pernicious and insidious currents of racism and hatred underlying these protests are glaring evidence of a failing system. The responsibility to end the divisive politics, racist rhetoric and demonising language of the past is yours. Only then will you bring unity instead of division and cohesion rather than hate. For those who need our compassion to be confronted with further torment here in the UK is shocking. But the outpouring of support from communities condemning the hatred is a powerful reminder that these views do not represent the vast majority. Today we stand in solidarity with those targeted, because this is what represents our country, this is who we are. Yours sincerely, 213 organisations.
I wholeheartedly agree with this.
Keir Starmer, Kemi Badenoch, Ed Davey, Stephen Flynn, Nigel Farage, Carla Denyer & Adrian Ramsey: your language and your leadership are what shapes the narrative in this country. Please take note and take urgent action with your words.
So this morningβs all-age service involved large supplies of vinegar & ketchup amongst other things, and now my office smells strongly of nothing else. π¬π€’
Pray all went smoothly. What a privilege to be part of sharing the Gospel in that space. π
Still sounds like changing the world to me! Fair play to you! π
A view out to the sea from Cullercoats beach.
Today is the day I hit my target of 1,000 miles walking this year.
Fitting that it should be (unintentionally) at one my favourite local places, Cullercoats, while walking part of the coastal path again.
Onwards now to a revised target of 1,500 miles.
Four ministers of Heaton Churches Together: Me, Rev. Dave Tubby (Heaton Baptist Church - wearing a collar, a rarity!); Rev. Gail Morgan (Heaton Methodist, Wallsend Methodist, Brunswick Methodist, Shieldfield Art Works, Hand in Hand & about a tonne of others Iβve forgotten!); Rev. Robert Lawrence (St Francisβ, High Heaton); Rev. Helen Gill (St. Silasβ).
Today Heaton Churches Together says farewell to Gail, one of our faithful ministers, who I am privileged to call βfriendβ. Gail retires today and moves on to pastures new.
Huge thanks for all you have done to serve Heaton, Gail, & for your dear friendship. May God bless you in this new season.
Iβd like to believe that this is, in itself, the Riddle of Dr Milverson.

Our community garden is looking particularly beautiful today!

Preaching at a neighbouring church this morning, who use the Good News version.
I decided to use my own copy so preached from this for the first time. It felt like a privilege. π
I think we both know, sadly. π’
Portrait: icon of the Holy Family fleeing at night. They are depicted in modern clothing and have halos. Joseph (wearing a black backpack) leads the way, and just behind is Mary (with a red bag clutched in each hand), carrying Jesus in a purple sling. All three look afraid.

A graphic showing me having walked 740 miles in 164 days - 259.5 miles to go for the rest of the year.
So far so good with my target of walking 1,000 miles this year. π
And we saw a Kingfisher on the way home, too! π€©
A wonderful wedding this weekend back in the Midlands, in a forest complete with free forest school too! Lots of fun with good friends.
Iβm doing the same planning at this very moment but with the coastal path north of the border instead! π€£
RIP George Wendt
Congratulations!
Wholeheartedly agree with this.

Dave stood next to the βWelcome to Scotlandβ sign on the border.
A map of the complete 131-mile route from Hartlepool to the border.
Last weekend, I completed the English coastal path from the Headland, Hartlepool to the Scottish border.
It stretches 131 miles and is stunning! You should walk (at least part of!) it!!
Now time to plan my next walks north of the border to carry it on. π
Dear Keir Starmer & the Labour government,
Please stop trying to out-Reform Reform (you canβt) & instead seek to be the government that millions of people voted for hoping for change. The UK needs care for the isolated, vulnerable, ostracised & poor not the demonisation of them.
Many thanks.
