A Warning About Media Consolidation as We Face Another Senseless War
Trump and his allies are working to consolidate the media into the hands of right-wing oligarchs. This is especially dangerous in a time of war.
We need media that tells the truth in times of war. Media consolidation undermines that goal. My latest for @freepress.bsky.social spells out the particular dangers of Paramount Skydance's acquisition of Warner Bros. and calls on state AGs to investigate it.

Strongly recommend this excellent piece. It actually understates the US failure: Brazil and S. Korea arenβt outliers. Quite the opposite. Since 2010, 31 democracies have convicted or banned leaders from office. Accountability is the democratic norm. America is the sole outlier.

Data Center Dems need to wake the fuck up and realize that siding with Mark Andreessen and Elon Musk and Peter Thiel is political suicide, in addition to being just plain wrong.

this is a great brief and it appropriately ends with a killshot: the simple observation that if trump's meaning held, the birthright clause would not have overturned dred scott, the one thing it was absolutely meant to do.

For CNN, a Change in Ownership Means a Suddenly Uncertain Future
There's nothing "uncertain" about it. Larry Ellison is building an autocrat-friendly propaganda machine and whatever shaky journalism originated from this place will soon be dead.

Minnesota needs a Manufactured Home Park Resident Bill of Rights β’ Minnesota Reformer
Out-of-state operators are buying Minnesota manufactured home parks and implementing aggressive rent increases on residents who own their homes but rent the underlying land.
Commentary: Out-of-state investors buy up manufactured home parks, then implement aggressive rent hikes on residents who own their homes but rent the land beneath. As eviction rates climb across the state, homeowners need protection from these practices. minnesotareformer.com/2026/02/25/m...

The stories in here of what DHS officers are doing to children who are still making the journey to the southern border to seek protection is appalling. One teenager says he was threatened with "a dog and a stun gun" into signing away his right to seek protection in the United States

For the first time since @projectsaltbox.bsky.social launched their DHS warehouse acquisition tracker, the number of canceled sales is higher than any of the other warehouse-related figures. We've reached a tipping point, folks.

Irish Data Protection Commission was asked today in Committee: have you ever taken a GDPR decision on Google?
Answer... No.
Ireland is responsible for supervising Google's data use across the whole EU. It has produced no decisions.
Kudos @sineadgibney.bsky.social for asking the question.

Trump FTC Threatens Apple With A Fake Investigation Into Its Nonexistent βLiberal News Biasβ
Here we go again. The Trump FTC has threatened Apple and CEO Tim Cook with a fake investigation claiming that Apple News doesnβt do a good enough job coddling right wing, Trump-friendly ideoloβ¦
Her claim that Apple News is biased toward liberal outlets is, you'll be shocked to learn, completely fabricated.
A dodgy right wing "media watchdog" just unilaterally and arbitrarily claimed a whole bunch of outlets were liberal
including WAPO, which is tripping over itself to please the right

Standing up to the small stuff might put you at odds w/ social trends. It might cause friction between you & your peers. It might threaten your employment prospects. It will be *socially uncomfortable*.
That's why the train gets going: by the time it's socially acceptable to say No, it's too late.

The time to prevent the thing from happening is *early*, as it is gaining steam. These things always start small, with efforts to weaken the norms against discrimination, with casual, unreflective slurs. They start with wedge policies (not gays, just gay adoption! not trans, just sports!).

But here's what I keep returning to: by the time the gov't is organized, tyrannical, & rounding up the marginalized, it's pretty much too late. By that time the remedies are often armed rebellion or invasion by another country or, at the very least, extended general strikes. Cat's out of the bag.

Two issues I'm pondering. One is that you can't move this many people without inflicting tremendous physical and psychological harm on those deported and on society itself. The second is that left in place for years, mass detention on a whole new level will be normalized. It rarely vanishes. [1/3]

US Critical Mineral Aggression Abroad Connected to Data Center Fights at Home
We must phase out fossil fuelsβnot endlessly reshuffle environmental sacrifice zones around the planet, write Hannah Lipstein and Tamara Kneese.
Data center fights are hyperlocal but depend on opaque global supply chains + geopolitical resource grabs. How do data centers connect with critical minerals and electronics manufacturing, and what makes these connections palpable? Hannah Lipstein + I wrote about this @techpolicypress.bsky.social
