Villains can be fun to write. But historically, portrayals of villainy have also been filled with stereotypes. Your villain isn't a villain because they're ugly, or from a different race, or disabled, or mentally ill. They're a villain because of their choices.

This research shows how civil society can drive decolonial change even when state action remains limited - particularly relevant as Portugal grapples with its colonial past and present inequalities.
Key findings:
✊ These groups expose institutional racism across education, policing, housing & healthcare
✊ They resist dominant narratives that deny Portugal's colonial legacy
✊ They create alternative spaces centering marginalized knowledge & identities
