I wrote a blog post about why we in the photography space *still* complain about Apple's Aperture going away over a decade later.
It was a *really* good app.

Ooo, very nice! I’m actually not too bad either - there’ve been a few in and out already as I figure out what I like and don’t!
A guitar pedalboard on a desk, full of guitar pedals.
“Look, my pedalboard is full now. It’s one in, one out from now on!”
My wife doesn’t believe me. The dog doesn’t believe me. Hell, *I* don’t believe me.
Still, for now… I really like this setup.

A guitar pedal board full of pedals but with the top surface missing. Wires snake around, bound together with yellow zip ties.
Is it *truly* Christmas if I’m not putting together a wiring loom for something?

Myself and a friend onstage at an open mic night. I’m playing guitar, and she’s singing.
Played an open mic night with a longtime friend recently - it was great fun. Thanks @amyscwilson.bsky.social!

Thank you!
This summer I passed the ten-year anniversary of launching the 1.0 of my app!
It's been a bumpy ride, but I took the time to celebrate and take pride in what I've been able to build.

My wife and I just finished playing through Split Fiction and I think it has to be the most creative video game I’ve played in… ever?
Such a refreshing change from a lot of the gaming landscape these days. Highly recommend!
A guitar pedal board on a desk filled with pedals. Behind it sits an audio interface and a laptop on a stand showing sheet music. In front of it sits a Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. There’s a lot of tech in here. Notably not visible in the photo are either a guitar or an amp.
“Guitar playing is really simple to get into - it’s a very versatile instrument, and all you need to get going is a cheap guitar (and a cheap amp if you go electric).”
Ten minutes later:

The bottom of the box, showing rubber foot and two screw heads.
I learned a new technique for threading in small threads (M3!) without metal inserts, which is cool! (Timestamp 5:10).
I can make five of these for the cost of one "real" one 😂.

A 3D-printed grey box with two big footswitch buttons and two toggle switches on the top.
The box without switch covers, sitting on a desk in front of a guitar pedal with a cable coming from the back.
The inside of the box, showing the wiring of the switches.
Today's adventure in 3D printing: A box with buttons and switches! Oooooo.
This is effectively a footswitch remote control for a guitar pedal. The “official" one is approaching $100 (Boss FS-6), and I made this for around $20.

In my defence:
- My app has a lot of UI which needs a big rebuild.
- It was an absolute cluster**** for a while there.
- There are so many inconsistencies in the new design language that I'm waiting until Apple and everyone else figures it all out and it settles down.

Screenshot of a diff of my app’s Info.plist file, showing the addition of UIDesignRequiresCompatibility: true (which disables Liquid Glass for the app).
It's fun seeing everyone's Liquid Glass app updates. Excited to share a screenshot of mine!

A bright orange sponge covered in microfibre, er… tentacles? It looks like a big sea anemone.
Did you know sponges stay wet for a long time? Which meant it couldn't go in the suitcase?
The eye rolls from my wife were legendary.
Worth it though — it's a good sponge, that!
Something I think gives away that I'm from "The North" of England (if not, at least that I'm British) is that I bought a $5 sponge in Canada, then after using it declaring:
"That's a good sponge, that.”
Then insisting we bring it home — on a bus across the US border, then on the plane from there.
To be fair, my luggage *was* 10% clothes and 90% laptops, cameras, and other misc. tech.
FIVE “Notice of Baggage Inspection” flyers. Ah, ah, ah.
I just found another one — now I’m up to five!
It’s interesting (to me, at least) that Newark and Seattle airports had different designs of the card. Especially since they all have exactly the same revision date/number on them.
Four “Notice of Baggage Inspection” flyers.
I recently returned from a long, chaotic, once-in-a-lifetime trip to the US and Canada. Did an intensive week of guitar playing in the US, then lots of mountain biking in Canada.
The TSA sure did find my luggage interesting on my way through.
We made a Bluesky account for my apps, and we’re mostly using it to post cool photos. Feel free to give it a follow!

If you're in the EU, you should sign this petition to ban conversion practices in the EU - there's only a day or so left, and it's getting really close to going through. This is an official petition that'll be discussed in parliament if it passes.

A pyjama’d pair of legs sticks out under a guitar to rest the feet at the end on a desk. Behind the foot is a monitor showing Logic playing a multitrack project. Next to the desk is a guitar stand and an amplifier with a microphone in front of it.
Rock 'n roll.
Songs I could get to good enough by then:
Romeo & Juliet (Dire Straits)
Blackbird (The Beatles)
Light up my Room (Barenaked Ladies)
I like all of the songs, but the last three don't really fit the vibe of the other two.
Any suggestions?
Alright social media, I need your help!
I'm playing an open mic night in a month. Current LOCKED IN songs are:
Song 2 (Blur)
21 Guns (Green Day)
A pretty fun set so far.
A package for a DisplayPort cable, branded “SERIOUS GAMING”.
It’s not gaming unless it’s *serious* gaming.
