Because we don’t teach social history very well generally so we miss the population-wide events, and we tend to disregard the greater sweeps of history to focus on very narrow pockets. You’d need a broader view of history in every sense to teach the impact of disease.
There’s a scene in “Wuthering Heights” where Isabella explains the full plot of Romeo and Juliet to a bewildered Edgar and it was SO strongly reminiscent of me recapping Heated Rivalry to my partner that I might have to change my ways

I don’t ‘do’ Valentine’s Day. But what I have done today is cook a tasty Japanese dinner, watched the Olympics, shared a bottle of white Bordeaux, and watched ‘Hook’ - all with the love on my whole life. This is just every Saturday we’re at home though. I am very lucky.
What’s really lovely is that we have a vibrant yellow flower (no idea what its name is!) that my father-in-law gifted us a cutting of from his Kent garden, that he had from a cutting from his mum’s garden in Sussex, now thriving in our Yorkshire garden! Flowers are like little bits of magic
I *love* this colour combination too. Almost all the flowers in our garden are purple, yellow or white. Purple is apparently best for pollinators and our garden is always very alive with insects 💙
