At the rugby league match last weekend in the US, when asked to stand for the US national anthem, the British fans started booing, then chanted over it. RL fanbase is mostly white, northern, working class - exactly the base Farage claims to be playing to. They don’t like Trump’s America!

Reminded once again that coming second in a first past the post system is essentially the same as coming last, ie, you lost. And the Green Party won convincingly!

Colman is talking about a film featuring a non-binary lead character, so she’s probably right here. But also it would be verrrrry Hollywood for studios to watch the success of Heated Rivalry and conclude that the people want more films about…sport

BUT Genghis Khan couldn’t read or write and he destroyed so much civilisation that he caused the climate to shift, so I think I can destroy civilisations even if I can’t count…

Today is the first day of Ramadan, the first day of Adar, Lunar New Year and Mardi Gras.
This means that for one reason or another, the majority of humans on the planet have a reason to eat fried food, and that is beautiful.

It’s okay, you really don’t need to know what WH is about to see this film! It’s not as good as Saltburn but I enjoyed it and the costumes and sets look stunning.

Because we don’t teach social history very well generally so we miss the population-wide events, and we tend to disregard the greater sweeps of history to focus on very narrow pockets. You’d need a broader view of history in every sense to teach the impact of disease.

There’s a scene in “Wuthering Heights” where Isabella explains the full plot of Romeo and Juliet to a bewildered Edgar and it was SO strongly reminiscent of me recapping Heated Rivalry to my partner that I might have to change my ways

I don’t ‘do’ Valentine’s Day. But what I have done today is cook a tasty Japanese dinner, watched the Olympics, shared a bottle of white Bordeaux, and watched ‘Hook’ - all with the love on my whole life. This is just every Saturday we’re at home though. I am very lucky.

What’s really lovely is that we have a vibrant yellow flower (no idea what its name is!) that my father-in-law gifted us a cutting of from his Kent garden, that he had from a cutting from his mum’s garden in Sussex, now thriving in our Yorkshire garden! Flowers are like little bits of magic

I *love* this colour combination too. Almost all the flowers in our garden are purple, yellow or white. Purple is apparently best for pollinators and our garden is always very alive with insects 💙

i love european olympics opening ceremonies. the second the ioc names a european host city the prime minister calls the culture minister into their office and says "find me your strangest homosexuals. give each of them a period of our great nation's history, a kilo of cocaine, and Ten Million Euros"

Women’s health - especially reproductive health - has been underresearched and underfunded for a loooooong time so the people saying ‘surely we’d know about this?’ should perhaps consider that a lack of evidence might be due to no one bothering to look for it.
