Typical. The first 2026 video game release I’m adding to my collection is a reissue of a 1993 port of a 1986 arcade game.
Slap Fight MD is notable for its arrange mode featuring a @yuzokoshiro.bsky.social OST.
We also covered the arcade game in the 1st year of @videowizardspod.bsky.social.
One of my beloved games, Final Fight.
I was in elementary school back then, and didn't clear it for the first time until I was in college.
Today I played it again at the arcade mecca, Game Center Mikado.
Also, being a game actor in the Japanese anime High Score Girl is great memory!

Burnout 3 is underrated as one of the very, very best games of all time because you can show Burnout 3 footage to people two decades later and their reaction will still be "hell yeah, this rules. I wanna play this right now."

Schildmaid MX is AMAZING but does require you play a little differently to how you might expect from a shmup - so here’re a few pointers to get you started

DFK is a pretty fun time, even learning the laser wheels wasn’t too bad. Getting into the Omote loop can be done on some very scrappy play, although seeing it out for a 2-ALL is gonna require some hard work. Here’s my current pb on switch & 360, 2-2 & 2-3, side by side. Onwards! #shmup #stg #dfk

4 video games that defined my 2025
SDOJ & K-Tiger were big challenges in terms of skill & learning and it was great to return to both Batsugun & Schildmaid MX. Not as many clears as last year but some trickier ones, really enjoyed my gaming time this year.
The Netherlands’ at this point sole existing video game magazine (est. 1993) @powerunlimited.bsky.social have featured our shmup Schildmaid MX on their precious pages 🙌🏻 And it’s a pretty decent writeup too!

Shock Troopers is at least part a spiritual sequel to Mercs, right down to it having some cheeky visual callbacks to it. Play that if you haven't already!
