Use bikes to do what needs to be done as much as possible (groceries, kid to school, library, get Christmas trees etc.). PhD in Astronomy some years ago. Enjoy computer programming as a hobby and for work. Help researchers use computer clusters and cloud.

That view is lazy and cowardly to just give up and do nothing.

So... just give up and doom all future generations... is that your plan? Sounds like a good idea... lets just give up now and have a big party to celebrate the end.

I think you are both right. The thing that is lacking is the realization/energy to force the government to act. That is a big hill to climb and they aren't going to act unless we drag them kicking and screaming.

But this is about your budget, not your city's, or your state, our your federal budget. We wouldn't want to imply our leaders are failing us by perpetuating car dependence. But that's why we are being sucked dry. It is intentional. This is what the oil and gas investments bought in Trump's campaign.

Yes, but what if we have to remove a few car parking spaces to make room for bus lanes, bike lanes, or pedestrian corner extensions? Let’s not get hasty here

I can't recommend the Future Ecologies (FE) podcast enough. They have my sense of humor (puns), and very interesting deep dives on ecology. The only down side is they don't make them very quickly.

I think it depends on the climate and the location. It can vary a lot.

FE1.5 - On Fire: Camas, Cores, and Spores (Part 1) β€” Future Ecologies Podcast The past two years have been the worst fire years on record across the west coast of North America, with whole communities being engulfed in flames and smoke enveloping major cities for weeks.  B...

There are a multiple things going on: the climate is changing making it more likely the burn, we are doing a bad job of managing them. FE has a nice 3 part series "on fire" talking about these things. Here is part 1.

The Canadian forests have not been a net sink of CO2 for a while now. This has become pretty obvious with the severity of forest fires the last few years. They are burning faster than they are growing.

Austerity is code for erasure: What one disabled educator, researcher and Nova Scotian thinks of the budget - Halifax Examiner If you care about disabled people, any people, your fellow Nova Scotians, then we need to talk seriously about collective action. About coordinated labour disruption. About a general strike.

Was it the NDP who came up with this budget? I don't think so...who ever came up with this budget is to blame for the protests I think.

The bike lanes aren’t costing so much because of what cyclists need. It’s because they keep delaying, re-designing , and changing them to appease drivers.

"Bring back the HST! Don't cut our community!" (& while you're at it, reinstate the bridge tolls).

When the person leading the protest chants asked: "did you ask for the HST cut?" the resounding response from the crowd was: "NO!"

Art and culture are beyond β€œrenewable” resourcesβ€”the more you β€˜extract’ , the more there is. We’re here to open this leadership’s eyes to that. Cuts will do nothing but harm the whole province.
