U.S. Department of Educationβs Office for Civil Rights Sends Letters to 60 Universities Under Investigation for Antisemitic Discrimination and Harassment WASHINGTON β Today, the U.S. Department of Educationβs Office for Civil Rights (OCR) sent letters to 60 institutions of higher education warning them of potential enforcement actions if they do not fulfill their obligations under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to protect Jewish students on campus, including uninterrupted access to campus facilities and educational opportunities. The letters are addressed to all U.S. universities that are presently under investigation for Title VI violations relating to antisemitic harassment and discrimination. βThe Department is deeply disappointed that Jewish students studying on elite U.S. campuses continue to fear for their safety amid the relentless antisemitic eruptions that have severely disrupted campus life for more than a year. University leaders must do better,β said Secretary of Education Linda McMahon. βU.S. colleges and universities benefit from enormous public investments funded by U.S. taxpayers. That support is a privilege and it is contingent on scrupulous adherence to federal antidiscrimination laws.β The schools that received letters from the Office for Civil Rights include:
American University Arizona State University Boston University Brown University California State University, Sacramento Chapman University Columbia University Cornell University Drexel University Eastern Washington University Emerson College George Mason University Harvard University Illinois Wesleyan University Indiana University, Bloomington Johns Hopkins University Lafayette College Lehigh University Middlebury College Muhlenberg College Northwestern University Ohio State University Pacific Lutheran University Pomona College Portland State University

Trump paused the refugee program, but when it comes back online, it will focus on resettling white South Africans (Afrikaners) who are βvictims of racial discrimination.β (Camilo/CBS)
America has gone off the rails.
Setting quotas of arrests per day. You know what happens when you have a quota to meet? Scoop them up and let the court sort it out. They will be grabbing anyone they can. No proof of citizenship on your person? Too bad. Thatβs an arrest. Look βillegal?β Explain it to the court someday.

First day of class today and Iβm amazed at how interesting my undergraduate students areβ¦ really looking forward to a great semester in the classroom and the fact that itβs not hurricane season!
FL's crackdown on #immigration is leaving deep scars on undocumented immigrants & U.S. citizens, @drlizaaranda.bsky.social & colleagues found. This comes as Trump promises mass deportations in his second term.

Finished my grading last night. The best part was reading some really good papers authored by graduate students! It was a difficult semester (2 hurricanes and an election) but also very rewarding!
Of course, Florida continues to try to roll back anything that has been good for immigrants!
Tune in to the lastest episode of Im/migrant Lives. We had a thoughtful conversation of how immigrants experience disasters and what policy-makers need to consider so that immigrants can be more prepared when facing a natural hazard.
