RNA biologist working at Hudson Institute in Melbourne. Interested in intersection of RNA modifications (A-to-I editing), dsRNA structure and RBPs with innate immunity and autoinflammatory disease. She/her.
Me for the last 2 weeks β¦. Seriously misjudged the predictability of the date based on last years release!
Iβm super excited to be opening a lab at WEHI. Weβll be focussing on how double-stranded RNA is regulated in cells, how failures in these pathways drive disease and new therapies to manipulate inflammatory responses to RNA.

So true. But you should definitely still celebrate this milestone in the manuscript marathon! π₯
Check out our new preprint on dirCLIP, the first method capable of interrogating RNA-protein interactions in their native transcript context by combining UV crosslinking and immunoprecipitation (CLIP) with amplification-free direct nanopore long-read sequencing! 1/4 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Science buddies are the best. Definite highlight of moving to @hudsonresearch.bsky.social has been learning from these two.
I love it, what a great tradition π€£

I actually find this the most shocking stat of all, that seemingly less grants than ever are being funded just because research is more expensive.
Thank you @drshanerrr.bsky.social for speaking on behalf of all of us. Itβs such wasted effort for 92% of applicants. Wouldnβt it be great if they took the spare 600 mil gathering dust at MRFF and funded an extra 10% of ideas grants?

We discovered a new regulator of RIG-I-like receptors #MDA5 #RIG-I, which are critical innate immune sensors of #RNA that detect #viral infection.

tl;dr π thread below
Screenshot of tweet from the ARC saying they will announce DP26 outcomes on Tuesday 28th Oct, and LP25r1 outcomes on Wednesday 29th.
ARC says Discovery Projects outcomes will be tomorrow (Tuesday). Linkage Projects (2025, round 1) on Wed. Over past ~year, it's often been at about 11am (Canberra).
My bot will pick up the change to RMS & post immediately.
ARC should email outcomes to lead CIs, but might take an 1hr or so for DPs
Happy to share our review on the Interplay between RNA-protein interactions and RNA structures. The open access article can be accessed here: doi.org/10.1002/2211...
Last day of #ARNASydney2025 and this cartoon from @xkcd.com is just particularly appropriate, so I had to re-share! #RNAsky
Super fun presenting some of our #MDA5 #RNA sensor work to an RNA-centric audience! The different point of view from my usual infection and immunity background led to some great questions and discussions. More ideas forming!!! #ARNASydney2025 #virus π§ͺπ§«π¦
Application for 2025/2026 RNA Salons is now open. Please apply by 31st August to receive support your local or regional RNA activities. @rnasociety.bsky.social #Lexogen www.rnasociety.org/salons

Excited to share a new preprint from the lab with @ryandhindsa.bsky.social ! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Led by @sherrynyeo.bsky.social, @erinmayc.bsky.social, and friends, we continue our journey to find viral DNA in our favorite place-- the overlooked and discarded reads in existing data! 1/

Iβm excited that this review co-written with my colleague and friend Carl Walkley is now published! We focused on genetic studies, from mouse to human, that uncover the functional importance and mechanisms of RNA editing enzyme ADAR1 and reveal exciting therapeutic potential. #ADAR #RNAediting

Cool stuff @cp-cell.bsky.social by @raflynn5.bsky.social & friends on presence & functions of glycoRNA microdomains on the plasma membrane! πππ
Good point, I mean we know thatβs true right?! Maybe the reduced coverage we see of these elements we always see in sequencing data is actually due to splicing, not structure like we have always assumed β¦.
Wow, looking forward to reading this one. Do the spliced TEs trigger nucleic acid sensors like PKR or MDA5?

Attention all Melbourne #RNA researchers. The next RNAVic minisymposium is now open for FREE registration. To be held at @hudsonresearch.bsky.social on March 27th with a great lineup of local speakers from research and industry. This is an RNA salon event supported by @rnasociety.bsky.social.

Yuval Dor on RNA editing in diabetes.
Thought inflamation caused by virus, but no virus found.
Can initial process that lead to diabetes trigerred by endogenous dsRNA induced inflamation?
Data indicates yes, by ADAR KO mouse model.
Phenotype similar to progression of diabetes in humans
The world of RNA modifications expands again! ADP-ribosylation discovered in the arms race of host-pathogen interactions.

No problems. I always enjoy a conference recap from those Iβve missed too! Most of the talks will be available to stream for a limited time too if youβve got regrets (and can afford it!)
Capped off the trip with a visit to the lovely group at the Kampmann lab @kampmann.bsky.social in San Francisco full of awesome discussions about all their cool screens and presenting some of our data too.
...
- All the talks on LINE1 and HUSH complex - I learned a lot! Kathleen Burns, Paul Lehner, Helen Rowe,
- Kristin Patrick from @thepwlab.bsky.social with very cool imaging of nuclear condensates in macrophage immune response.
- and so many others but I've run out of steam!
