Just seen a new publication suggesting severe Anorexia Nervosa is caused by "spiritual and karmic factors" πŸ˜¬πŸ™ƒπŸ˜¬πŸ™ƒπŸ˜¬πŸ™ƒπŸ˜¬πŸ™ƒπŸ˜¬πŸ™ƒπŸ˜¬πŸ™ƒπŸ˜¬πŸ™ƒ

Perfect timing for the start of Eating Disorders Awareness Week, the stupidest fucking week of the year!

"loose lips sink ships"
and ships are never male...

why would any girl or woman even try to talk about abuse when she's almost guaranteed to end up further underwater, surrounded by men on yachts, laughing?

if you want to have a nice afternoon don't go digging around the Epstein files

and definitely don't search for terms like anorexic and anorexia

(or their common misspellings, because this man is basically illiterate)

because you will find nothing good

not many things can take my level of irritation from 0 to 100 in less than a second, but reading the phrase "mouse model of anorexia nervosa" is sure to do it

Nowhere is America's difficult relationship with the truth more apparent than in the fact they will call almost anything a noodle.

Are you "suffering from burnout" or is it more like ... sparkling ennui?

(it's perfectly okay to wish you were paid more or feel bored at work or find your colleagues tiresome or infuriating. AND not every emotion has to be CATACLYSMIC)

I try really hard to keep my commitments, and to turn around requested reviews very quickly (usually within a few days). As far as I know, so do most people. I have no idea where the bottleneck is but it's not in MY house.

P.S. I am available for peer reviews ;-)

August 27: I email Editor asking for update, expressing concern that the deadline "by September" is now just 2 working days away and may now be unrealistic...

I don't know if this is an author problem or a journal problem or an editor problem or what, but it's definitely not a *reviewer* problem.

[*crickets for several weeks*]

August 11: I email Editor asking again for article ETA. (I'm well aware August goes more quickly than it seems.)

August 14: Editor replies, it’s β€œpractically ready”, will be available β€œin the coming week”.

[*crickets*]

"Why does peer review take so long??"

July 14: Editor emails me requesting peer review β€œin the coming weeks”
I reply accepting, asking for article ETA so I can plan my summer commitments
July 21: Editor simply says they need it β€œcompleted by September”. No problem, I can do that. I confirm.

the worst part is that this would almost certainly work really well, because we are sad, fragile humans whose careers are built entirely on external validation

That I don't want to go? That it was never my choice? That it's not me, it's them? That I'd stay if they wanted me to? That I thought they liked me? That I'm the saddest dumpee in the whole wide world????

Sad!!!!

Less than 4 weeks till my FTC ends and I have received an email from HR telling me they're "sorry to hear [I'm] leaving" and they're "always keen to understand why colleagues decide to leave".

What to say to that?????

how long till hadl*y fre*man uses the fact that she was anorexic once as the pretext for some bullshit take on the deliberate starvation of Gazans

(i guess it'll be several months yet because she's famously slow off the mark and her bad takes are all pitifully tepid, too)

A New York Times story titled "These Americans Went Looking for the Britain Found Onscreen. They Found a Different Story". The subheading reads, in part, "they moved across the Atlantic with visions of Jane Austen and Merchant Ivory. The reality was a little less dreamy."

There is a photograph of a chubby tourist in her 40s dressed in a bonnet and empire-line white dress.
