Raising the retirement age is the last physical extraction of human life by a gov. The only thing they can't tax (yet): our time.

Sunbeams stream through dense morning fog in a forest, illuminating a dirt road that curves gently ahead. Tall trees line both sides, their leaves catching the light, while fallen leaves scatter across the ground and a mossy log rests near the roadside.
Liminal space is not empty. It is a living corridor where instincts sharpen and purpose clarifies.
Rockström defined limits. Raworth added minimums. Ostrom prescribed governance. Meadows described dynamics.
FLOW verifies whether anyone is staying within those limits, meeting those minimums, following that governance, and respecting the dynamics.

Love for the earth doesn’t come from sermons or speeches, but from walking slowly, noticing, and listening.

If you know these beaches, then you know how they heal.
It's been a long time since Simon ran with gratitude. A long time since energy sparked a want for chase.
That Simon finally finds joy at the beach w/o his littermate Garson is a kind of cruel kindness. Nearly one year later, he can smile. Almost one year later, he can wag his tail and approach other pups. And yet — I can hardly relate how he's also struggling. How he's trying but remembering. My boy.

We will never know the true economic value of the environment; it's a fool's errand. Nature's most important values are priceless, they can never be measured in dollars and cents, but they must be conserved.
Wild card! I click whatever pops up on flix for WFH “office cooler” talk.
"…From the moment they both came into my life (our lives), the world around me faded away. As they grew older, the more feral we all became. Muir, Berry, Walden?
Pigpen?"

This, my boy.
Rural Identity Politics 101: Control voter sentiment + stall renewables = artificial headwinds for donor-backed competitors.
Then 'favored donors' scoop up land, permits, contracts (cheaply) while rivals are blocked.
If 'favored donors' are playing both fossil and renewables? They'll win twice.
Looking forward to taking part in @healrewilding.org.uk’s Into the Light Festival next week
I’ll be presenting on grasslands and their importance for rewilding projects

One of the hardest lessons in pet grief—or any grief—is this: you don’t owe rituals to those who stood by while yours went unseen.
Grief deserves space.
Light a candle, reflect—but don’t give unnecessarily to those who won’t give to you.

I feel his loneliness some days more than others. Pet grief - his grief - is real, audible, and it manifests in physical ways. #grief #dogs #traildog #takotsubo #heartmurmur
My boys and I were avid trail runners—until cancer slowed him down. Everything then changed. But I learned: there’s no greater honor than caring for the one who helped you find your way back to your true north.
My work blends earlier work in grief writing w current environmental research. #RedGate
The Red Gate Series will be my first book project—exploring pet loss, memory, and ritual.
THESE OUR BOYS begins the arc. freefall closes it.
For anyone walking forward with a quieter trail beside them.

Solastalgia is the ache for what is disappearing, even as you stand in the middle: eroding coastlines or trails that have gone silent.

I’ve started something I’m proud of. This isn’t just a Substack—it’s a commitment to the work ahead. I’m currently pursuing concurrent Master’s degrees in Environmental Science and Environmental Policy, both of which I hope to defend next year. #EnvironmentalScience

Heartbreaking. The work of thousands of lifetimes, smashed to bits in months
Person in green jacket and hat walking on a beach with dunes in the background. Her dog follows.
Image of haystacks, rocky outcroppings on the beach. Visual creates a V close up and in the distance one can see another, moodier set of haystacks and other rocky outcroppings. Sky is clear, blue. Beach is glassy, reflective.
Image if of a sugar face dog laying on a beach, soaking in the sunshine. He's wearing a red harness and casually looks back at his person - love in his eyes.
Image if of a sugar face dog trotting on a beach with a wide smile. His reflection in the sand is clear. Rocky outcroppings appear in the background. Beach is glassy. A peak of blue sky can be seen, but the focus is on the happy pup.
I’ve been quieter here than usual.
Losing Garson, Simon's littermate, took more out of me than I can say.
Today, it feels right to begin again — with Simon still by my side.
A few photos, a few small joys.
Thanks for walking alongside us. 🌿

I was hoping to pop into bsky with either some amazing adventures or great enviro info but we’ve been caught in a bomb cyclone of power outages and downed trees. So, until the chaos ends… please enjoy our most recent photo ops.
Hi John! Happy to see your joy in this space - just got here myself!
