Rare microbial relict sheds light on an ancient eukaryotic supergroup - Nature The discovery of an unusual protist named Solarion arienae, which has a mitochondrial genome with some intriguing features, provides insight into the early radiation of eukaryotic groups.

Each such discovery is a game changer for our understanding of eukaryote evolution, and this paper is no exception. Meet Solarion, which displays yet again novel types of subcellular structures. Congrats to all authors on a fascinating story. #protistsonsky

Three years later, has the $800M edX deal lost its luster? 2U’s acquisition of online course provider edX was once seen as a major winβ€”and potentially even larger disrupterβ€”in the OPM industry. Things didn’t go as planned.

4 years later the new owners are in deep debt anyway: www.insidehighered.com/news/tech-in...

🧠🌟🐭 Excited to share some of my postdoc work on the evolution of dexterity!

We compared deer mice evolved in forest vs prairie habitats. We found that forest mice have:
(1) more corticospinal neurons (CSNs)
(2) better hand dexterity
(3) more dexterous climbing, which is linked to CSN number🧡

These ancient bumblebees were found with their pollen source Insects have long pollinated plants, but evidence of ancient pairing is rare. Fossils now show bees and linden trees goes back 24 million years.

Scientists just found several fossil bumblebees covered in pollen that directly matches fossil flowers nearby.

The 24-million-year-old discovery reveals the oldest known evidence connecting pollinators to the pollinated.
