As an artist, the time and attention social medias demand, including to some extent bluesky takes away from my time to sit in boredom and be creative. This past month has been my most productive, and I finally picked up my art projects again.

For me especially as a Jamaican, the domination of feeds everywhere by US news is counter productive. Yes US news affects everyone globally, but some more than others. It doesn’t do me good to be constantly plugged into US news cycles when I barely know what’s going on in my own country.

I think I have to curate my following. I recently took a month off Instagram, and I’m finding myself to be more present, less distracted, more focused. But I’m not opposed to social media entirely. That said when I come on Bluesky I get bombarded with stressful news and negative emotions. I can’t…

In 2024, Albania shockingly changed its Protected Areas Law to allow the construction of airports, resorts, and other developments inside protected areas.

This opened the door to projects that threaten some of the country’s most valuable natural sites.

I mean why do we even have social media. It doesn’t help us actually achieve change, it makes us anxious and angry, it monopolizes our attention, pacifies us, makes us dumber…

People oppose bike infrastructure because “not everyone can bike”, but you don’t have to bike to use it. I commonly see mobility scooters on bike infrastructure here too.

It’s typically smoother and wider than the sidewalk. As long as there’s enough room for everyone, it works fine.

@proton.me I love Proton however I haven't been able to find current information about your energy or sustainability goals at all. The lack of transparency in this area is disheartening, especially in light of a comment made in a reddit thread 7 years ago about you moving in that direction.

But I wonder this because most people have no concern for how their data is being used, how their attention is being exploited, how they are being manipulated, by these companies. And the companies seem to have won whatever war we had for privacy, data sovereignty, and digital rights.

I can't help but wonder if privacy is dead, or if it's on its deathbed. My main reason for setting up these alternatives for myself and my community is more about divesting from big tech companies who have shown themselves to be at odds with our best interests.

spent a few days setting up my own nextcloud instance, getting it running, adding calendar and contacts, on top of my own file server I now use to keep projects. Im trying to self host these things to get some privacy and sovereignty in my digital life, and while it's hard, it's also rewarding.
