Hey yeah probably best to reach out to Bill directly.. he has the info! Hi Roro!
When I was in Nyc I printed these 5 photos of Aotearoa and hung them on my wall in dollar store frames. Still with me, they now live at the back door next to Charlie's indoor hoop so they have fallen off plenty, broken, bled colour and warped into beautiful abstraction. A 20 year art process 🤌👌❤️🩹
I do know this is the drumbeat of my therapeutic work right now- do not isolate, do not be crippled with ideas of perfection, do not isolate, reach out and touch your community, touch the ground.
Valentine's day. How do we keep loving even when it's hard and our heart is broke. Even when some of us fucked up the kitchen, and not to feed others. There are lots of thought leaders on this, I am not one of them.
and destructive to us all. It is especially terrible for women. Rupture and repair have been some of my most loving lessons from my partnership with Bill and romance had nothing to do with it. There is no romanticizing what is happening in the US today. Love for community is on my mind this
When Trump won again I thought "at least Bill exists". I continue to think it every day as we see the way white men who have not known love wield power so hatefully. We all know romance is not what love is, that romance as the primary understanding of love is a capitalist individualist myth
connect and organize for many years. This creates social tension for us on occasion because it's not always comfortable. "Chill out!" I tell him. "You're doing too much!". I've always known his way of being in the world is important and something I want to be a part of.
We have a lot of privilege and also his job gives him space to do this. I am always in awe of his capacities for this kind of work. I am inspired by his dedication and work ethic. I support where I can. I get grumpy at the burden sometimes. He has been working tirelessly to agitate,
I'm usually working. He is propelled into community justice work for a number of reasons and some of them come with an emotional and energetic cost to himself and to our romantic partnership. Our kitchen is often not spick- and-span (this is not generally the issue), our furniture is worn.
in terms of bang for buck our financial contribution goes a long way (he rescues food multiple times a week also to support people with food insecurity). He independently cooks beautiful food for 60 people and goes and serves it to his community. Sometimes a friend helps. I don't help him very much.
center where he serves lunch to community members coming for food support. He does this pretty much every week. He rescues food with help from the Chicago food sovereignty coalition (www.chifoodsovereignty.com) to mitigate the cost to our family, but
I don't know how to post this as not seeming like a humblebrag. Will do my best. This is the kitchen (in pretty good shape!) that Bill just left as he took a significant amount of food to the Chicago alliance against racism and police repression (caarp.org)/ Black Lives Matter Chicago distribution
Lots of this!
