I think we need good role models, there are good people out there but they don't make the news.

I have to rein myself in from such words. Corruscate is another favourite but I've trained myself out of using it.
I had a 31 word piece that I took the knife to, a bit of a scary operation π¬
Thanks for the kind words Andy π
Thanks Ju (if I may call you that) π
Beautifully expressed! Also great work with the title to frame the poem π
Powerful writing Scott
Congratulations Paul π

18 words (basically my usual opening line), so the challenge continues.
Inadvertent rhyme at the end π―
Reminds me of when I heard a strange whirring noise on my windowsill, which continued for at least a few hours. When I eventually checked I found a large beetle had somehow fallen into a pottery vase with a wide lip. I tipped him into the garden and away he flew.
A high-contrast black-and-white portrait shows a person standing close to window blinds, lifting one slat to look outside. Light cuts across their eye and cheek while the rest of the face remains in shadow. The Broken Spine fountain pen logo appears in the top left corner, with β@thebrokenspine.co.ukβ in white at the top right. Bold white text in the lower right reads: βRead Repost Reply #POEMSABOUT #BEINGWATCHEDβ.

Excellently put! Terrible that the small amount of progress is being eroded.

Good morning and many thanks @thebrokenspine.co.uk and @alanparrywriter.co.uk for your intriguing #PoemsAbout prompt #BeingWatched. This isn't new but I hope it fits the bill. Looking forward to reading everyone else's contributions #PoetryCommunity #BlueSkyPoets
Very much enjoyed the trajectory of this, especially the two final stanzas.

I very vaguely remember them too, my dad had a generator for keeping the vital farm machinery going and so he could milk his cows. I very vaguely remember paraffin heaters and oil lamps in our house too. The paraffin stink was unforgettable.

I keep thinking about the foot soldiers on the sharp end. Really horrific. Of course when it's done remotely or by autonomous machines driven by algorithm and code then you don't have to consider the morals of the specific individual behind the sword / trigger / flamethrower / bomb release
Thank you! We had a (planned) power cut last week, and several unplanned ones in the last year. I think they'll become more likely.
As well as getting the intent behind this piece I really admire the word choices and the way you've subtly woven on the rhyme π₯π₯π₯
Thanks @rfsmith.bsky.social for this weekβs #promptcombo #powerless. Hereβs one about the powerlessness that comes with an aging body.
Brilliantly written Paul
Your writing never fails to prompt lots of thoughts, especially those opening stanzas. Fantastic narrative told in a lyrical way, even if I did need to look some parts up π₯π₯π₯
I've just jumped on the same bus! Very much enjoyed where you took the ending π
π
Thanks π
I can see from a brief skim (I'll be back soon to read properly) that my take is far from unique. Still attempting brevity. For @rfsmith.bsky.social #PromptCombo #powerless
