Our last panel session was an inspiring discussion with BioRTC’s Mahmoud Maina, Yaw Aniweh, Latin America Bioimaging, Aimé Sanhoun, Samira Benadda, and @caron.jacobs.bsky.social, on the important of building a common vision for bioimaging in Africa, centered on research #ABIC_CM2024

An exciting panel discussion with Umar Muhammad Kundi, Prof Zoueu, @globalbioimaging.bsky.social, Latin America Bioimaging, and @france-bioimaging.bsky.social highlighted the importance of story telling, scientific excellence & community for infrastructure advocacy #ABIC_CM2024

Precious Kgomo gave an update on our African Microscopy Infrastructure and Expertise survey, the interesting insights learned from the data, and challenges faced through the process #ABIC_CM2024

We heard from @caronjacobs.bsky.social about microscope access opportunities and infrastructure building efforts through @AMI_microscopy and OpenScopes Africa #ABIC_CM2024

What a day! The 2nd day of #ABIC_CM2024 flew past! Some highlights include presentations and discussions around microscopy infrastructure, access and advocacy in Africa, and interactive discussions about building visions for the microscopy community & research in Africa.

Umar Muhammad Kundi from BioRTC in Nigeria was the last talk of the afternoon session, talking about the importance of infrastructure and training for building research capacity in Africa. He shared the great access and training opportunities available through BioRTC #ABIC_CM2024

Followed by Sunday Olatunji shared about the awesome partnership with the Widening the Lens course run by Bryan Millis at Vanderbilt University! #ABIC_CM2024

Our afternoon session has focused on microscopy training initiatives in Africa. The training and working group overview from Lize Engelbrecht was followed by updates on the “Science from the Diaspora” seminar series and the Cell Profiler train-the-trainer program from Nehal & Naomi #ABIC_CM2024

Closing up session 2, Samira Benadda from France BioImaging shares about starting up core facilities in African institutions- for better research, education and outreach, outputs, visibility, sustainability and funding! #ABIC_CM2024

Happiness Netshimbupfe from South African BioImaging shares about the efforts to map the South African bioimaging ecosystem, and some of the challenges faced in South Africa- with strong resonance across the whole continent! #ABIC_CM2024

Session 2 highlighting various networks and initiatives in Africa kicked off strong! We heard from Prof Jeremie Zoueu about AFSINET and the Ivorian Initiative. Then Yaw Aniweh from WAMBIAN gave a strong argument for the power of local communities strengthening basic research in Africa #ABIC_CM24 🇨🇮🔬
